New works garage, office opened

A very exciting day arrived for the
councillors and ratepayers of the Township
of Morris on Saturday, October 19 when
their new Municipal Office and Works
Garage was officially opened. Donald
Dunbar played the organ while the visitors
were arriving. The Johnson Family of
Stratford entertained with some lively
step -dancing and violin numbers. Reeve
Wm. Elston welcomed everyone and com-
plimented the engineer, contractor and
anyone involved with a job well done. The
dedication was by the Reverend John
Roberts of 13elgrave. Remarks were also
given by John Godin, District Municipal
Engineer, Ministry of Transportation and
Communications, Paul Steckle, Warden for
County of Huron, Calvin Krauter, Reeve of
Brussels, Dave Johnson of Johnson Engi-
neering Services of Stratford, the Honorable
Murray Elston brought greetings from
himself, his ministry and colleagues at
Toronto, Thomas Miller, Deputy Reeve of
the Township gave the appreciation re-
marks. The official opening ceremonies were
held outside. The unveiling of the commem-
orative plaque was by Honorable Murray
Elston, MPP. assisted by Deputy Reeve
Thomas Miller. The ribbon cutting ceremony
was by Honorable Murray Elston, MPP,
John .Godin and Reeve William J. Elston
assisted by Thomas Miller, Robert Grasby,
Douglas Fraser and Clement McLellan.
SENIORS MEET
On Wednesday afternoon 23 members of
the Brussels Senior Friendship Club met in
the Legion Hall. One minute silence was
observed in remembrance of the late Lulu
Kerr who was our pianist for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Sutton supplied music for
many, old songs. Euchre was played and a
social time was enjoyed by all.
On November 20 an OPP officer will be at
our meeting to answer any questions.
BAPTISMAL HELD
On Thanksgiving Sunday at Brussels
United Church, Kyle Barry Stephenson, son
of David and Annette Stephenson of
Brussels, was baptized in a white gown
brought to him by his Grandpa and Grandma
Wicks from Regina, Saskatchewan. Attend-
ing were Barrie and Maxine Wicks of
Regina, Saskatchewan (grandparents), Doc
and Nora Stephenson of Brussels, (grand-
parents), Neil, Joan, Dan, Brad, Randy and
Josh Beuerman, Mark and Dianne Bowley
from Holyrood, Doug Sholdice and Joan
Cardiff.
BIRTHDAY PARTY
Jim. Bremner of Brussels celebrated his
90th birthday October 16 at J R's Shake
Shoppe with his friends. On Sunday,
October 13 his son Bill and Fran Bremner
had a family dinner in honor of his birthday.
He received a family portrait and many gifts.
He thanked everyone and said because there
were so many of them he kept young.

Basic baking theme
of Staffa 1 4-H club
Basic Baking is the theme of the Staffs 1
4-H club. It met for the second time recently
at the home of Freda Kerslake.
Leaders of the club are Freda Kerslake and
Doris Jeffery. Its slate of officers is Jenny
Fuller, president; Teresa Freestone, vice-
president; Susan Dearline, Secretary; Su-
sann Lachnit, assistant secretary; Joan
Kerslake, treasurer and Katie Kerslake,
press reporter.
To date the club members have learned to
make tea biscuits and pastry.
Brodhagen 4-H club
learn to make crust

Members of the Brodhagen 4-H club took
part in the making of pie crust at their
second meeting. Apples were put in the
crust and while it was baking. Jean Ahrens
ted in the discussion of baking and storing of
pie crust from the members project book. All
the girls enjoyed the apple pie and agreed
that making a pie isn't as hard as it sounds.
At the next meeting the girls will be making
meat pies.

CHURCH NEWS •
The congregation of Melville Presbyterian
Church in Brussels had the pleasure of
having the Reverend Norma Mae Davidson
from Brampton in the pulpit on Sunday while
the Reverend Jamieson conducted services
at Knox, Gorrie and St. Andrew's Church in
Molesworth. The choir sang with Margaret
Shortreed taking the solo part. Prayers were
said for the sick. At the session meeting last
Wednesday elders were encouraged to
encourage one another in actively serving as
elders and the adherents roll was reviewed.
On Monday our minister will be attending
the second session of the Academy of
Evangelism for Church Growth at Morning-
side -Hide Park Presbyterian Church, Toron-
to. This is part of the retraining all ministers
in the Presbyterian Church in Canada are
required to have within the next five years.
BRUSSELS UNITED
On October 20 the congregation and their
minister the Reverend Charles Carpentier
gathered for worship in. the Brussels United
Church. The choir presented an anthem
presentation. Prayers were said for the sick.
Rev. Carpentier was in charge of Ethel
United Church Anniversary celebration on
Sunday evening. The Listowel Secondary
School Chamber choir also participated.
Next Sunday will be Brussels United Church
Anniversary. In the morning service at 11
a.m. the St. Andrew's Handbell choir will
participate and in the evening at 7:30 p.m.

choir. Monday, October 28 at 8 p.m. there
will be Bible Study in the church parlor. The
UCW will have a Thankoffering service on
November 3 and a hot luncheon and bake
sale will be held on November 15 from 11:30
a.m. to 1 n.m.
AT the Brussels United Church on
Thanksgiving Sunday, Tyler Craig Camp-
bell, son of Laurie and Debra Campbell, and
brother of Corey was baptized by the
Reverend Charles Carpentier. Attending the
baptism were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Mery Pipe, Brussels; Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Coultes, Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Cousins, Newmarket, Mrs. Mae Campbell,
Seaforth, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Campbell,
Brussels. Also attending were Blaine and
Kevin Coultes and Karen South. Following
the service dinner was served at the home of
Laurie and Debra.
25TH ANNIVERSARY
Friends, neighbors and relatives joined in
celebrating the 25th wedding anniversary of
John and Merle . Cousins at the Brussels
Community Centre on Saturday, October 19.
Dancing was enjoyed to the music of D.J.
Maurice Drager.
At intermission, master of ceremonies
Bandy Cousins of London, welcomed
everyone, then introduced a mock wedding
party acted by friends of John and Merle.
