Leader Nan Britton opened the meeting with a verse and Sadie Hoy spoke on the Golden Years of Life. A moment of silence was observed for Susan Purdy, who passed away this month. Myrtle Sherritt gave the treasurer's report. Mary Roobol reported on the correspondence and the offering was received by Isobel Rogerson and dedicated by Mrs. Britton. Hilda Payne gave a report on the Regional Rally at Dash wood. Mrs. White of Birr spoke on her trip to Israel and Nellie Riley read a poem: Hilda Payne continued the study on the native Indian. The general meeting will be October 7. A lunch was served by Dorothy Mickle and Myrtle Sherritt. OFFICERS INSTALLED District Deputy President (DDP) Leona Connelly of Huron District 23 and her staff were guests at the Amber Rebekah Lodge on Wednesday evening for the purpose of installing the officers for the ensuing term. Margaret McCutcheon read the Commission and Barb McCutcheon was Deputy Marshall. Nell Scott and Sharon Freeman sang and Verna Thomas was pianist. Eunice Aikenhead was given the chair of the Past Noble Grand. The D. D. P, spoke to the members on "Happiness and Smiling" and outlined the president's activities for the year. She was presented with a gift by P.0 Eunice Aikenhead. During the business of the lodge a donation was voted to the C. G.I. T, A delicious lunch was served following the meeting. UNIT 3 Unit 3 held its October meeting at Hensall United Church and followed a Thanksgiving theme. Dorothy Parker presided. Erla Coleman read an article and Pearl Taylor took the study book on a Korean girl. Hostesses were Beatrice Munn and Sarah Dick. SOUTH HURON A good crowd attended the first Y.F.C. rally for the season Saturday. The rally was in the charge of Don Westlake, director in the chair. He sang and Sharon Parker played the piano. Pastor Archie Robertson of Egmond-! Ville opened with prayer, The group of Bible Quizzers consisting of Murray Rundle, Exeter; Brian Steckle, Zurich; Roxanne Martin, Zurich; Christine Westlake, Bay- field; Vicki Pentland, Dungannon; Melonie Van Patter, Bayfield; Nancy Ackersville, Stratford; who had attended the Circle Ranch at Delevan, New York in July gave a review of their quizzing. Ron and Pat Westlake were given certificates and a gift for their interest and work with the group. Barbara Hodgins- then odginsthen sang accompanying herself on the guitar. Maury Blair from "Teen Challenge'.' in Toronto was the guest speaker. The next rally is Saturday, November 2 at the school, with showing of the film "Never Ashamed." The December Rally will feature Rev. Larry Marshall of Shallow Lake. QUEENSWAY NURSING HOME NEWS This week the volunteer minister was the Rev. Hawley. Thirty-eight residents were down in the Activity room to attend the service. Rev. Hawley also brought along five volunteers who were a real help. Pianist was Robert Cameron. Joanne Wareham, Pat Down, Lori Shapton and Dorothy Grainger helped the residents with the hymn books, Many of the residents spent as much time as possible outdoors this week as there probably won't be many nice days ahead, The Nursing Home residents enjoyed music with their lunch on Thursday as Lone Johnston played his fiddle in the Activity Room. On Thursday evening several residents enjoyed the weekly movie called "The Juggler" a story of a young visually handicapped boy who becomes friends with a young beggar who juggles for money. On Friday the ladies enjoyed a "Ladies Hour" where they had their make-up and fingernails done, along with their afternoon tea. It was very enjoyable and the ladies looked lovelier than ever afterwards. Quote of the week: "Experience is the name everyone gives their mistakes." Oscar Wilde. UNITED CHURCH The United Church was filled on Sunday morning when World Wide Communion Sunday was celebrated. Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "Great Day In the Morning." Mary Moffatt was the organist for the service, and Tim Mann, Chuck Mallette, Glen Slade and Darryl Preszcator were the ushers. For the Communion Service Mary Lou Hyde and Sharon Wurm assisted Mr. McDonald and John Rowcliffe, Barbara Gackstetter, Chuck Mallette, Ross Riley, Clair Hoffman, Eileen Rannie, Gary Kyle and Lorne Spencer served the Communion. PEOPLE Rev. McDonald attended the 50th Wed- ding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Drehmann in Wingham United Church on Sunday afternoon. Rev. McDonald, assisted by Elders Audrey Christie and Dorothy Brintnell served Com- munion to the members of their congregation and their friends at the Bluewater Rest Home on Thursday of this week. CARMEL CHURCH Rev, Kenneth Knight conducted Holy Communion in Cannel Presbyterian Church on Sunday in keeping with the World Wide Communion. Carolyn Love presided at the organ for the service, The Church is holding its Annual Bazaar on Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m. The P.C. W . met at Ferguson Apiaries on Monday evening. Thanksgiving. service will be observed next Sunday at the usual hour. PEOPLE Mrs. William McEwen of Edmonton is the guest of Mr, and Mrs. Harry Smith and also visited with other local relatives. Rev. and Mrs. Harold Currie, Stratford and Rev. StanMcDonald were Sunday dinner guests with Mrs. Laird Mickle. Jim Dickins was back on his Hully Gully Honda after a three week rest,' Jim won the season championship at Hully Gully on Saturday; then travelled to Acton on Sunday where the track was very' muddy. He placed a strong fourth in his first race and was running a very good 4th in his second race when his bike watered out with only two laps to go. This gave Jim sixth overall for the day. Jim will be back at Hully Gully for the last race of the year, Sunday, October. 20. 4-H club learns baking craft BY JANE PAPPLE • Press Reporter The fourth meeting of the Kippen la 4-H dub was held on October first at Brucefield United Church. This meeting was about baking cakes. We learned about the different kinds of cakes, how to beat egg whites, the actual baking of the cakes, and the nutritional value of specific cakes. We made peanut butter cupcakes, chocolate cake and apple chiffon cake. The first two were done on time for us to taste and were very good. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30. Announcements from the bulletin include a reminder of Kippen Anniversary Service on Sunday, October 20 at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow this service in a time for fellowship. History book deadline shifted The Stanley History Book Committee met on Wednesday, October 2 and decided to allow additional space for family histories and extended the submission deadline to Novem- ber 1, 1985. Families are asked to make sure that they register with Albert Postma, Varna, before October 16. All families who have registered will receive a letter -explaining the changes in space allotment. The decision was made, not to complete the proposed farm histories where owners have failed to return the information forms or did not list all previous owners. Only the farms with the names of all owners down through the years will be included. The committee had originally planned to include a complete list of the owners of each farm with the date of purchase. The next meeting will be at the Complex on Wednesday, October 16, and all interested people are welcome. Egmondville 4-H club elect new officers Officers were elected at the first meeting of the Egmondville 4-1-1 club That meeting was held last Tuesday at the home of Marg Ungarian The elected officers are Kathy Sootiens. president; Helen Van Loon. Vice President, Vicky Upshall, secretary: and Ifelen Van Loon as Press Reporter. Other members of the club are Jane Fraiser, Colleen Ungarian, Kathreen Mail- loux. Jessica Mennell and Allyson Scott. A special visitor from France, Mercedes. was also in attendance at the meeting After the business portion of the meeting Vicky and Jessica made tea biscuits while the rest of the group watched The biscuits were later given the taste test. At a second meeting of the Egmondville 4- H club the members spent the night making two kinds of pastry — shortening and lard.
