hopefuls Larry Grossman and Dennis Tim- "He's agriculture oriented," said Mrs.
brell.
The provincial riding association elected its
delegates on Saturday, October 5.
The delegates will represent Perth Tories
at the leadership convention in Toronto on
November 15 and 16. Three men, Larry
Grossman, Dennis Timbrell and Alan Pope
are seeking the provincial Conservative
leadership.
Of 11 delegates selected from across Perth
County, six have definitely decided who their
leadership hopeful is.
The PC candidate in the May 2 provincial
election, Glynn Coghlin of RR 1, Atwood has
two reasons 'why he is voting for Dennis
Timbrell, besides the fact he is a personal
friend.
"First of all he has the ability to pull the
people together, and second, he has the
ability to get the party back into power," said
Mr. Coghlin,
John Stratton, as Grossman supporter, said
while he thinks his man is the best to lead the
party both in opposition and as the governing
party, Grossman has more going for him.
"He appeals to a wider base that will get us
back into power,' says the Stratford lawyer,
The ability to get what Mr. Stratton called
the ethnic vote in the city and Mr.
Grossman's proven track record in the
provincial cabinet are what is needed by the
Conservatives now.
Dill of the former agricultural minister.. .
Nina Carey of Stratford is leaning towards
Grossman who she supported in the last
leadership race in January.
Kelly Judge.of Listowel says while she is
remaining fairly open, she is leaning towards
Alan Pope. Kelly's father, Vince Judge, the
former president of the Perth PC riding
association, maintained throughout the last
leadership election he would have supported
Pope if he had been running.
The male delegates were less sure of how
they would vote. The new president of the
association, Ross McPhail of RR 2, Staffa is
uncommitted for now. He admitted he
supported Timbrell last January.
Ormond Pridham of RR 1, Fullarton and
John Rutherford of RR 1, Stratford are both
uncommitted.
Tony Sinko of Stratford is another Gross-
man supporter. He described the former
finance minister as "aggressive" enough to
handle the leadership of the party.
The other youth delegate, Lisa (Carey)
Cartwright of RR 1, Londesboro and formerly
of Stratford has not yet decided who she will
support.
The only other person from Perth who
gets to vote at the convention is Dr. Harry
Brightwell, member of parliament. He told
the crowd he is not yet committed to any
candidate.
Thanksgiving farm tours are planned
The family is all gathered for the
Thanksgiving weekend, but there isn't much
available for you to do as a group.
Wrong.
The real meaning of Thanksgiving can be
appreciated by experiencing what those
pilgrims of oh so many years ago must have
felt when the crops were harvested and in the
barn and healthy animals were available to
feed the family.
And the Perth County Federation of
Agriculture, for the third year in a row, is
offering city and town folk alike the
opportunity to experience thankfulness by
opening up three farms in the Sebringville
area on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The agricultural group actually hosts the
farm tours in connection with Agri -Food week
which is a province -wide event aimed at
making consumers more aware of the
farmers.
The farms will be open from 11 a.m. to 4
p.m. and arrows will mark the location of the
three farms all off Highway 8.
The RR 5, Stratford farm of Joe Vanden
Heuvel is located on the first road off of
County Road 12 (just north of Sebringville).
Turn right at this first road and the Vanden
Heuvel's dairy farm is the third farm in.
The furrow to finish hog operation of John
Nyenhuis at RR 1, Sebringville is also located
off County Road 12. This time, take the
second road to the left (conc. 5) and the
Nyenhuis farm is the last farm in the first
block.
The third farm offers a variety of beef cows,
poultry and pigs. This is the Carlton E]rgoetz
farm at RR 5, Stratford, which is just off the
road at Seebach's hill. Turn north and the
E hgoetz farm is the second farm on the right.
A spokesman for the federation said
agriculture products can be sampled.

Gates to be locked
Gates will remain locked on weekends at
the driveway entrances to the Perth County
board of education's office building in
Stratford.
Stratford trustee Paul Parlee attempted to
get his colleagues to have administration
reconsider the locked gates at their October 1
meeting,
The gates at the west end of the property
are locked on weekends. At the same time, a
barricade is put up at the east entrance to the
property.
"This is public property and the public
should have access to it," said Mr.' Parlee.
However, the majority of his colleagues do
not agree. Some cited cars travelling through
the driveway at high rates of speed and
people returning 'to their cars late at night
and creating noise as reasons for keeping' the
parking lot off limits.
To counter the speeding, Mr. Parlee
suggested speed bumps be put in the
driveway.
Wallace Township trustee Dereck Ward
complained he has had difficulty in the lot
because it is full. He suggested people, other
than those on school board business are using
the parking lot. Mr. Ward also said the
building and property are owned by taxpay-
.ers across the county, not just Stratford.
It was' noted that patrons of the Stratford
Shakespearean Festival, which is a half block
away from the education centre, are using the
parking lot in the evenings and on weekends.
