The Huron Expositor, 1985-09-11, Page 5Grape P Hensall Correspondent BERTHA M acGREGOR 262-2025 President Dorothy Parker welcomed every- one to the September meeting of Unit 3 of Hensall United Church. It was announced the Regional meeting would be September 26 in Dashwood. Names for the Centennial quilt are to be given to Marg Cole by October 1. A donation from the Unit has been made to the Friendship House Project. For the program Mary Brintnell read a poem. Ardys Glenn showed a film for the study group, on a church letter from Chile. Worship was conducted by Earla Coleman, the theme being "Grape Pickers." 'Hostesses were Earle Coleman and Marg Cole. AMBER LODGE The Fall season of Amber Rebekah Lodge opened Wednesday evening with Noble Grand Eunice Aikenhead presiding assisted by Vice Grand Lois Jones. Several cards of thanks were read and Lois Jones reported for the visiting committee, The Charter is to be. draped for Sister Iva Call, Past President of the International Rebekah Association and Bro. Herbert Dawson, Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ontario: A letter was read from the DDP Leona Connelly, Brussels, and the Installation of Officers will be held October 2. Lodge closed following the business and a delicious pot luck lunch was enjoyed. UNIT FOUR Unit 4 of the UCW of Hensall United Church opened its fall schedule with a potluck luncheon. Mabel Park and Evelyn Flynn were in charge of the food. Nan Britton opened the meeting. Pearl Shaddick read from Psalm 89 for the devotional and dosed with an Indian prayer. Minutes were read and adopted. Roll call was answered by 17 members and eight guests from Huronview and the Bluewater Rest Home. Mrs. Jack Glenn, a former member from the Bluewater Home, recited "The Touch of the Master's Hand" in a very eloquent and touching manner. Mary Roobol reported three birthday cards sent. Myrtle Sherritt reported the financing standing. Mary Roobol received the offering and it was dedicated by Nan Britton. In business the Regional Rally will be at Dashwood September 26, 1985. Audrey Christie, chairperson for this area of Friendship House of Huron County (which is a home for battered wives and children), is asking for donations of canned goods, children's clothing or money to purchase the same. There is a box in Friendship Hall of the Church for donations. Isobel Rogerson in the study brought out some of the differences in Indian tribes in Canada. They attended their nieces' wedding reception at Crediton. Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted worship at Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday with Carolyn Love presiding at the organ. Mrs. Laird Midde entertained her grand- son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs,. David MacMillan, who were recently married and now living at Ayr and also his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacMillan of Waterloo and his great aunt, Florence Joynt. They all enjoyed a turkey dinner and a good visit, The Hensall Area Horticultural Society are meeting on Wednesday September 11 at 8 p.m. in the Hensall United Church. The guest Speaker will be Doug Ellison, travel agent. There will be an exchange of plants. Dale Gooding of Parkhill has accepted the position of Activity Co-ordinator at the Queensway Nursing Home. Congratulations Dale, welcome to our village. There was an excellent attendance at the United Church on Sunday morning for Christian Education Sunday. The service was HENSALL conducted by Rev. Mr. McDonald with Belva Fuss at the organ. During the service Winona Hoffman and Belva Fuss sang a solo with Jean Jacobe at the piano. Barbara Gackstet- ter greeted the congregation and Rod Parker, Raye Jocobe, Steve McGregor and Jim Parsons were the ushers. During the service the Christian Education Staff were installed. The Sunday School teachers installed for the coming year were: nursery one, Janis Bisback and Joan Corbett; nursery two,• Pat Campbell and Gail Reid; Kindergarten, Sharon Kyle and Judy Kyle; primary one, Beth McGee; primary two, Jean Jacobe, junior one, Tammy Preszcator; junior two, Joanne Rowdiffe; intermediate, Steve Corbett and Elaine Corbett; senior, Pam Mallette. Donna McBeath was pianist. Barbara Moffat pre$ided and Mrs. Cliff Henderson read the minutes of the previous meeting and gave the treasurer's report in the absence of Marjorie Broadfoot. Plans were made for the dessert euchre at 1 p.m, on October t. The regional meeting will be. at Egmondville on October28 and the UCW are invited to Goshen on Thursday, October 10 at 8 p.m. Unit 3 served lunch. PEOPLE • Mr. and Mrs. John Moffat and family attended the Crow family picnic at Brantford Sunday. PRUCEFIELD Jack Bennett of Denver, Colorado spent the week with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wightman. They attended a family reunion at Stillwater, New Jersey on the weekend and a picnic with Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCully of Kincardine and his family at Stratford. Ina and Olen Scott,; Landon visited with their brother Ross Scott on Sunday. Mr. J.K. Cornish of the Bluewater Nursing Home in Zurich.spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brock. Florence O'Neill of Landon spent the weekend with her sister Violet Ross. The ministry of music was in the form of a piano solo performed by Christine Cooper. The topic for the story time was Jesus' trip with his parents to Jerusalem. Bulletin reminders: The Kippen Anniver- sary service will be held on Sunday, October 20 at 11 a.m. The world wide ,Communion Sunday will be held on October 6. Church School and that there were quite a number of assistant teachers available as well. The Youth Group Leaders installed were: • Messengers, Evelyn Elder, Bonnie Gould, Bev Bell; The Explorer Leaders, Shirley McAllister; Santosh Malik, Margaret Cole and Dorothy Brintneil; C. G. I. T, leaders will be Linda Traquair and Susan Stephens. The Messengers and Explorers have their first meeting on September 9 and the C.G.LT. will hold their first meeting on September 23. Members of the Couples Club along with other members of the congregation at the United Church enjoyed an evening of dinner and theatre on Thursday evening. Dinner was enjoyed in the parlor of the church at 6;00 p.m. and then the group travelled to the Huron Country Playhouse, Grand Bend to enjoy The Sound of Music. Sunday Church School opened on Sunday at the United Church with a large group of enthusiastic children and young people in attendance. This year there will be four special assemblies held with the Nursery and Kindergarten children holding a seperate assembly to the Primary and older children; The dates of the assemblies are September 29, October 27, February 16 and March 30. The Christmas White Gift Service is planned for December at 11:00 a.m. and the Promotional Sunday will be June 8 with the children conducting both services. Once a month a Junior Minister will be chosen from a different department each month and they will assist Mr. McDonald with the opening worship. Special Mission and Outreach programs are planned for the students. Each month one of the departments of the Sunday School will present Bibles for the children in other countries, for this they bring their extra dimes and nickles. The month of March is Mission Month at which, time they will be sacrificing something and giving the equivalent to the hungry children of the world, Special activities are also planned .for the year at Christmas as well as a winter activity etc. The staff and students will be holding a special Bake Sale on Saturday, October 19 in the church hall to raise money for these activities.
