Rain dampens races
Race action returned to Hully Gully on
August 24 and 25 for another Double Header
weekend. Due to weather conditions House -
league Trophy Day on Saturday had to be
cancelled, but this did not stop the hot and
heavies on Sunday even though rain
continued throughout Saturday evening.
Local riders did well in their classes
picking up points in the overall season
standings. Jim Dickins in the BOA lass and
John Kochan of the BOB both of Hensall
finished fifth and first respectively in their
Masses, even though muddy conditions
prevailed. However, sun in the early
afternoon proved to be the factor in some
great afternoon race action.
Houseleague trophy day has been resche-
duled until September 7, 1985.

LEGION
NEWS
Banquet response
thrills Legion
The Diamond Jubilee Committee was quite
happy at the response received from the
Branch Friday night at its banquet. Diamond
Jubilee medals were presented to 17 of its
Past Presidents and to 13 of the Ladies
Auxiliary Past Presidents by Steve McGuire,
Deputy Zone Commander and Jack Tufford
our Zone Commander and to the ladies by
Evelyn Carroll, 2nd Vice President of the
Ladies Auxiliary Provincial Command and
Mary Hawn, ladies Zone Commander C 1
District Commander W alter Dukes gave a
brief explanation of the medal, its purpose of
recognizing the Legion member for his or her
contribution to the welfare of the Branch
Carol Anne Doig, a granddaughter of Paul
Doig, a first war veteran, brought greetings
from the Town Council and refreshed our
memories of how the Legion was involved in
their lives when they were growing up The
"Articles of Faith" were duly read by
Comrade Frank Golding our Padre and
signed by all those attending, attesting to the
fact they would uphold the aims and
traditions of the Legion in the years to come
The meeting was closed by our Deputy
District Commander Glenn Bridge.
Once again we have to thank Mr Ladies
Auxiliary for the delicious meal they worked
so hard to prepare, including the beautifully
decorated cake commemorating the 60 years
of the Legion. We are very lucky to have so
many girls that give so much of their time to
our organization. Thanks once again girls
The Seniors Golf Tournament rover fifty)
was well attended by 25 golfers Saturday.
The weatherman kept threatening with
showers but held off all afternoon. Don Eaton
had the best game and won the Diamond
Jubilee trophy and Al Nicholson had the low
net. After the prizes were given out the day
was concluded with a steak dinner.
With regard to the musical "We'll Meet
Again'; to be seen on September 20, we will
need a few more volunteers to help billet
these players that night. The orchestra will
now also be present that evening which in the
beginning were not. If anyone would like to
have a guest that night please let Barbara
Scott know. The cast will be the guests of the
Branch after the show. On Saturday those
who golf would like a round of golf at our local
golf course.
The tickets are out now for the Ceiligh
which is on Saturday, September 14. A Scotch
programme has been put together by Peter
Malcolm and his committee. Dancing will be
enjoyed through the evening as well, This has
been a very popular night in the past so
please get your tickets at your earliest
convenience. Tickets are available at the
Branch and from the entertainment commit-
tee in charge.
Owing to the holiday weekend coming up
there will be no column next week Drive
carefully and have a good weekend.
At the going down of the sun and in the
morning we will remember them.
