Following the supper Art Finlayson, chairman of the anniversary tournament, said the anniver- sary tournament would be held in Seaforth on August 21. Again this year the committee is asking for donations of prizes or money from the members and associates. Donations may be left with Art Finlayson, Tom Phillips, Edith Dunlop, Fled Tilley or at the club house. The club is also looking to collect canned goods and groceries to make up two more prize boxes. As this is the big fund-raising event for the year the committee needs everyone's partibi pation. Entries to date have been good with both draws almost, filled. The first at 10:30 a,m. and the second at 12 noon, Tuesday evening August 13, the Seaforth club is hosting Exeter bowlers with a mixed jitney. It is hoped there.will be a good turnout of Seaforth bowlers to welcome the Exeter Club. SCOREBOARD SEAFORTH LADIES SOFTBALL SCORES McNichol vs Scotts McNichol slaughtered Scotts by a score of 25-4. , Hitting for McNichols were Colleen Fischer, a triple and a double; Judy Scarrow, a double; Cheryl McClure and Ann Bosman hit a home run each. Locally owned H.F. Alice fiify to put on show When the three-year-old pacing fillies of the Ontario Sires Stakes hit Clinton Raceway on Sunday, August 11, locally -owned H F Alice will be one filly looking to put on a good show for the hometown fans. The homebred daughter of Tarport Count, owned by Bill Fleming of the tiny town near Lake Huron, has been somewhat of a pacesetter among these girls. Last month, H F Alice became the fastest female ever of any age in Canada on a half -mile track when she toured Flamboro Downs in Dundas in 1:57 and two-fifths. The following week the filly, trained by George (Butch) Elliott and driven by Ray McLean, captured honors in an OSS event at Toronto's Greenwood Raceway with a 1:59 tally. Last week at the Rothmans Summer Championship in Toronto, H F Alice put in a very tough mile in the elimination to win in 1:57 and three-fifths, but just couldn't hang ' on in the final, succumbing to the attack of the Jade prince filly For Your Eyes Only. Fbr Your Ejes Only came into the Toronto race as one of the longshots, but by the time she was finished, everyone knew this was one filly worth watching. Trained by Bob McIntosh of Windsor for owners Barry Epstein of Lexington, Ky., and Lou Guido of Yardley, Pa., For Your Eyes Only cruised to a 1:59 and two-fifths win with driver Ron Henderson in their elimination, and came right back in the final with a 1:59 flat performance. Another filly who will likely be looking for revenge in the Clinton race will be the Armbro Omaha daughter Village Secretary. She too was just beaten by For Your Eyes Only in their elimination for the $180,000 Rothmans Summer Championship, and in the final also had to settle for the bridesmaid spot. Trained and driven by Bill McElroy for co-owners Frank Grandinetti and Elaine Bird of New York, Village Secretary was a $10,500 purchase last fall out of the CSHS's Mixed Sale. Another filly who showed some powerful speed at Greenwood Raceway in Toronto but couldn't manage to steal the spotlight from For Your Eyes Only was Above The Crowd. The Armbro Ranger filly Finished second to H F Alice in their elimination, closing like a train. Conditioned by John Yake for owners Theo Koerner of St. Thomas, Above The Crowd has earned close to $40,000 this year. Not too bad a return on a $5,500 yearling purchase. Another pair of fillies worth looking at are the Toronto -owned Dee Dee Splurge and C R Candy. Dee Dee Splurge, a daughter of the stallion Armbro Splurge, who stands at Seelster Farms in Lucan, has most recently won OSS competitions at Dresden, Belleville and Leamington raceways. Trained by the OJC's leading conditioner, Fred Hoffman, this filly seems to feel especially at home on the half-milers. C R Candy, trained by Peter Smith for the Down The Stretch Stable of Mississauga, is no slouch either The Armbro Topper filly most recently won stakes races at Dresden and Orangeville, and should be quite ready for a tough competition at Clinton. Some other fillies to watch at Clinton might include: Majors Choice, a daughter of Jade Prince trained by Bill Wellwood for owners Charles Armstrong of Inglewood and Gustav Schickedanz of Thornhill. Majors Choice hasn't been in the spotlight much this year, but looks like she may be rounding into form. in the Rothmans Summer Championship last week she finished third in both her elimination and the final --two impressive showings; Armbro Daisy, a winner of OSS events at Belleville and 1,eamington for the Burboy Farms, Robert Fisher, and Cohn Ferguson, Dave Wall trans the daughter of Armbro Ranger.
