Man says family his salvation
A Dublin man celebrating his eighty-
eighth birthday this week says his family is
his salvation.
"They help me all they can," says Peter
Maloney, a life-long area resident who
celebrates his birthday Aug. 9.
Born in McKillop Township, Mr. Maloney
has lived in Dublin since Dec. 1. He was a
driver with the Seaforth Creamery for 20
years.
He is also the first in his family to reach age
88. That's quite an accomplishment: He had
11 brothers and sisters, most of whom are still
living.
He and his wife Calotilda have raised 10
children Of their own. Mrs. Maloney has been
in hospital fora couple of weeks with a broken
hip, and Mr. Maloney says he doesn't always
get to see his children as often as he'd like.

PETER MALONEY
"But some call quite often," he says.
They used to raise fancy chickens, but had
to give it up two years ago because of Mr.
Maloney's heart trouble. They were also in
the' shetland pony business for awhile.
He met his wife through the St. Columban
parish in which both lived. ,
"I saw her at dances and parties," he says.
They celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding
anniversary in June.
Since he can't get out much, he depends on
his family to do many of his chores for him.
"They're awful good to me," he says.
