night's event. The duo have been involved with the barbecue since
it began In 1960. Mr. Jarmuth said the barbecue was one of the firs
fundraising projects for the organization. He said the barbecue is

Mrs. Jack Burchill and Mrs. Bert Daynard,
convenors of Family and Consumer Affairs,
hosted their meeting of the Staffa Women's
Institute in the township hall at Staffa.
Their guest speaker for the evening was
Pat Wallace, Lions Head. She gave a
commentary and showed slides on her work
as a nurse in the North -W est Territories.
Pat had been a nurse at the Seaforth
Community Hospital. There were many
guests present, among them visitors from
England and California.
Mrs. Arthur Kemp contributed some
household hints.
The display for Mitchell Fair was discussed
and final plans were made regarding
sponsorship of Katie Kerslake for the Queen
of the Fair Competition at Mitchell Fair.
Hazel Harburn presided for the July
meeting of the Marian Ritchie Evening
Auxiliary July 16, with nine members
present.
Mrs. Harburn opened with a poem,
Hannah Miller gave a reading and Doris
Miller took her Scripture reading from the
book of Psalms. Roll Call was answered by
giving a fact about Korea.
Jay Scott read the minutes and correspon-
dence and Mary Elliott gave the treasurer's
report. Everyone was asked to bring Korean
articles to the September meeting.
Helen Parsons read an article on Everyday
Miracles and Grace Kerslake read a story.
The meeting closed with a hymn, Ruth
Laing accompanying on the piano.
Friday, July 26, four Chinese teachers and
their interpreter from Us He Agricultural
College in China visited the farm of Lorne Fell
and family. Accompanying the group were
three faculty members from the Ontario
Agricultural College at Guelph.
The visitors were interested in pedigreed
seed production and how the Canadian
pedigreed system operates, as they have no
pedigreed seed system in China. The group is
spending two weeks in Ontario to observe

Ted and Frances Melady returned home
last week from St. Paul, Alberta where they
spent three weeks with Jim and Jean Fisk and
attended the funeral of their grandson Jed
Fisk.
Jim, Jean and Jesse Fisk returned with
them and will spend two weeks with the
Meladys.

of Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Van Roessel who
were married on Saturday, July 27 at St.
Columban Roman Catholic Church by Father
Andrew Sipek.
A large crowd attended the reception at the

Friday night was a flourishing night in
Brodhagen at Steffler's General Store on
Main Street. Many people stood in line from 5
p.m. to enjoy one of the 25 cent hot dogs and
.50 cent hamburgers that Mark and Cheryl
Steffler and helpers cooked on an open
barbecue.
Baxter the camel was a great attraction for
both young and old as he paraded down the
street with his owners dressed in Arabian
attire.
After doing their shopping, many people
licked on the 100 ice cream cones that Mark
scooped.
The icing was really put on the cake for
Mark and Cheryl's six-month anniversary
when their special event was televised by
CKCO-TV for the 11:00 news. W inners of the
draws were: first - Rob Badley - beach pack;
second - Janet Rock - hair dryer; third - Jeff
Leonhardt - stapler and staples; and fourth -
Georgina Eickmeyer - Hostess stuffed
animal.
PEOPLE
Donna Van Bakel and Marci Scherbarth
attended the 4-H Youth Conference at
Centralia College from July 22-24. Ninety
three teenages from Perth, Waterloo, and
Wellington counties took part. Speakers from
various organizations such as International
Youth Year, AAs Employment, Service
Management and Agriculture gave informa-
tive talks on their careers.
A trip to the Pinery and various sports
activites rounded out the three days for
Donna and Marci.

St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brodhagen
Sunday from the funeral of Bob French. The
sympathy of the community is extended to
the French families. Bob lived for many years
in the house now occupied by Gary Joshing,
next door to the church sheds in Brodhagen.
Local couples attended the wedding
ceremony of Debbie Brown and Kevin Lannin
at the Monkton United Church and the
reception at the Mitchell Community Centre
on Saturday.
A large crowd attended the annual chicken
barbecue at the Brodhagen Community
Centre on Wednesday night. The Pee Wee
Girls tied 12-12 with New Hamburg and the
Brodhagen Brewers won 9-3 over the
Fullerton A's.
It sure was nice to see the stands full of
spectators for the games, It really does help!
Matthew Vock spent a few days of his
vacation with his grandparents, Carl and
Betty Vock. Elliott and Kimberley Faust also
spent the weekend with their grandpa Carl
Vock and Grandma Betty Vock.
Minnie Leonhardt and Alma Docking spent
the weekend with their family at the
Klondyke, near Grand Bend.
The Brodhagen Ladies' Slo-pitch ball team
won the "B" championship at the tourna-
ment in Walton on Saturday.
Saturday evening, friends and relatives
attended the Buck and Doe for Michelle Rose
and Darryl Seigner at the Brodhagen
Community Centre. Michelle was also
honored at a bridal shower on Sunday
afternoon at First Lutheran Church.
Michelle was assisted in the opening of her
gifts by Dorothy Rose and Gail Seigner after
which Ruth Ann Duncan read the Brides
Book she had composed.
Michelle thanked the ladies and the
hostesses: Ruth Ann Duncan, llleen and
Sandra Trentowsky, and Mildred Ritz.
Michelle is marrying Darryl Seigner on
August 10 at Grace Lutheran Church In
Mitchell.
Kendra Lynette, daughter of Keith and
Michelle Bennewies was baptized at Sobring-
ville United Church on Sunday morning. Rev.
Fflshie officiated and Charlene !loran was the
sponsor, along with the parents.
At Keith and Michelle's new home, the
guests were: Willard and Norlene Benne-
wies, Jim and Laurene Horan, Charlene and
Brad Horan, Kieven and Sandra Bennewies.

Perth Board of Ed
to resume talks
The Perth County Board of Education and
its teachers have agreed to resume
negotiations.
According to a press release issued by
Howard Shantz, the chairman of the salary
negotiating committee, "The parties have
agreed to resume negotiations under the
auspices of Graeme McKechnie, who was
appointed by the Education Relations
Commissions. Meeting dates will be as
scheduled by Mr. McKechnie."
District 22 of the Ontario Secondary
School Teachers' Federation, which repre-
sents the teachers, has also withdrawn its
charge of bad faith bargaining against the
ERC, Mr. Shantz said.
He had previously said the teachers'
requests had resulted in a 40 per cent
increase to their current collective agree-
ment, which expires Aug. 31. The teachers
refuted the figure.
To date, no meeting has been set.
