One of the Stratford Festival's most
popular concert attractions will be returning
this summer, The Festival announced today
that the Preservation Hall Jazz Band will
perform on Monday, July 22 in the Festival
Theatre. The concert will mark the fifth year
in a row the band has performed at the
Stratford Festival. It will be the eighth
Festival engagement for the Preservation
Hall Jazz Band since its first appearance at
Stratford in 1976.
The unique sounds of the Preservation Hall
Jazz Band hearken back to the roots of the
Dixieland jazz of New Orleans. The musicians
all contemporaries of such legendary names
as Louis Armstrong, Bunk Johnson, King
Oliver, Bessie Smith and Jelly Roll Morton,
provide great entertainment while preserv-
ing a distinctive tradition of American music.
