Hospice to host 'Day at the Races' fundraiser By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen Just weeks after officially opening to the public, the Huron Residential Hospice is hosting a family -friendly fundraiser at the Clinton Raceway on Canada Day. Billed as a day at the races to benefit the hospice, the event includes a charity barbecue, access to the pool and splash pad and 10 live harness races at the raceway. Singing "0 Canada" that day will be the Driftwood Harmony Ladies Choir. The group was formed in the spring of 2017. They sing in the style of a capella and meet weekly in Goderich. The festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon as the races continue on the track. The hospice officially opened to the public on May 31, welcoming its first Huron County family into the home for its end -of -life services. Representative Michelle Field said that any money raised on Canada Day will go towards the organization's capital campaign, which has a goal of adding a four- bedroom addition to the Clinton - area building as soon as possible. When that expansion is complete, the existing three bedrooms could then be repurposed into a nurses' communication room, a spiritual/reflection room and a children's play room. That would also bring all of the hospice's services under the same roof. For more information on the event, visit huronhospice.ca. On the ground floor, a future two-bedroom secondary suite is included in the plans, ideal as an in-law suite or mortgage -helper. Entry is through a covered porch and into a foyer with a coat closet to the left. A den is to the right, perfectly placed to serve as a home office. This home measures 32 feet wide and 54 feet, six inches deep, for a total of 1,462 square feet on the main floor. Ceilings are nine feet high, except where otherwise indicated. Plans for design 2-3-771 are available for $695 (set of 5), $755(set of 8) and $803 for a super set of 10. Also add $35.00 for Priority charges within B.C. or $60.00 outside of B.C.
