WALTON

Could you hear it on the weekend?
It was the sound of the farmers
heaving sighs of relief at the
welcome sound of rain falling. I
think the corn grew about two inches
overnight with the moisture. The
rows of beans started to thicken
almost as quickly. Sometimes, when
everyone is wishing for rain, it starts
and then forgets to stop, but the
weekend rain measured about a half
inch in most places. It's a nice start,
but another half inch would be great
sometime this week. The corn will
easily reach knee high by July. Rain,
of course, affects and cancels a lot of
other outdoor activities, but not
everyone can be happy. Ball
tournaments on rain delay,
motocross racing in mud, cemetery
decoration services cancelled,
family reunions moved to indoor
venues, just to name a few things.
There was a party on Walton Road
at the home of Jeff and Tracey
McKee and family on Saturday. It
was a celebration of the 50th
wedding anniversary of Jeff's
parents, Paul and Linda McKee of
Belgrave. They were joined by
family, Corey and Cindy, David and
Leanne, Jeff and Tracy and families
and extended family and friends for
the celebration. Congratulations to
the McKees!
Another reason for the McKees to
celebrate was the official ribbon -
cutting of Jeff and Tracy and family
taking over Sills Home Hardware in
Seaforth. They are carrying on a
family tradition of ownership of the
store, going back 128 years. Tracy is
the fifth generation and both sons,
Mitchell and Matthew, are the sixth
generation of family to work in the
store. Congratulations to the
McKees!
The Walton Raceway held open
stopwatch practice and races on
Friday and Saturday at the track and
Sunday was to be a provincial
championship. The weather
unfortunately had different ideas and
a few races did run, but the day
ended up being cancelled when the
rain continued.
Congratulations to Curtis and
Lauren Ryan on the birth of a baby
girl. The little bundle of joy arrived
early Thursday and her name is
Brielle. She has very excited
grandparents, Paul and Cheryl Ryan
and great-grandparents Gerry and
Anne Ryan waiting to get to know
her!
Our sympathies are extended to
Bert Clarke and extended family on
the passing of his wife, Minnie
Clarke. She will also be missed by
her siblings Margaret, Tom, Carol
and Mona. Our condolences to all.
A familiar face will be seen
around Walton for a week as Sherry
Delay and husband Eric and son
Fletcher are here for a holiday. They
will celebrate Fletcher's third
birthday with a party when here with
the rest of the Hoegy family at

When it came time to look to the
future after graduation, Walton -area
media professional Nick
Vinnicombe decided that running
his own business, Lake Affect
Media, was the way to go.
Vinnicombe finished his
education, studying Television and
New Media Production at Loyalist
College in Belleville, earlier this
year and opened Lake Affect Media
as a full-time venture on May 1.
He runs the business from his
family farm on Canada Company
Line.
Vinnicombe previously ran
Vinnicombe Production Studio, a
company he set up through the
Provincial Government's Summer
Company program. He decided that,
after working in media part time for
several years while at school, he
would be able to make his passion
his full-time career and felt there
was nowhere better to do that than
Huron County.
"I grew up here," he said. "The
community drew me back. I went to
school planning to come back and
work here."

Graeme and Helen Craig were at
the Ridgetown College all -years
reunion on the weekend. The event
is held every year and graduates are
invited to attend on every fifth year
of their graduation. Graeme
graduated 50 years ago and was
thrilled to attend. Out of the 122
graduates in 1968, there were 38 in
attendance. Their "class" received
the Golden Flush Award for most in
attendance. The day included a
social afternoon and dinner. They
report a very nice time.
Jim Armstrong also attended a
graduation party on the weekend.
Jim travelled to Guelph to attend the
65th anniversary party of his
graduation from University of
Guelph, class of 1953, with a
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.
The group has been gathering since
graduation and have a newsletter as
well. There were 20 graduates in
attendance. They enjoyed a dinner
and some entertainment for the
gathering. His daughter, Leanne

Lake Affect Media offers a full
suite of media services, including
photography, videography and
services directed at preserving old
media, like digitizing VHS cassettes,
he said. He also has experience in
graphic design and marketing,
saying that his college courses and
further experience taught him a little
bit of everything.
"This is a one-stop shop for
photography, videography projects
and anything visual," he said.
Having his own company makes
him the odd -one -out among his
fellow graduates, Vinnicombe said,
most of whom are freelancing right
now.
"That can be tough," he said. "I'm
the only grad that's working in a
rural area, but my contacts here
helped me to start and have work
right away."
He said that many big media
