Friends of the Village, landowners buy benches
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
The Blyth Business Improvement
Area held an impromptu information
session on June 6 after not having
sufficient representatives for quorum
for its regularly -scheduled monthly
meeting.
The meeting served as an advisory
session for the BIA's next meeting in
July, where any decisions made at
the special session will be ratified.

The Friends of the Village liaison
Lissa Kolkman informed the BIA
during the June session that benches
were set to be delivered and installed
Marking the grand opening
After its soft opening was a success late last month, the Blyth Artisan Market was in full swing
for its grand opening on June 7. The event brought six vendors to the temporary location in
the alley behind the Blyth Legion Branch and Blyth Memorial Hall, including two food vendors
who weren't in attendance for the first week. The opening also marked the start of the market's
entertainment series, which was kicked off by the Prashker-Rankine Experience, which
features dulcimer player David Rankine, left, and hand drummer Cheryl Prashker. (Denny Scott

A warm welcome from the
Friends of the Village of Blyth P
in the village then later that week.
The benches, which were being
crafted by blacksmith James
Wallace, have since been installed
on Queen Street at the municipal
parking lot in front of the Blyth Food
Market.
A existing bicycle stand has now
been moved from that location as a
result of the installation and is now
located on the west side of Queen
Street in front of the future home of
Reece Sparling's Blyth Bike Tours.

In addition to Friends of the
Village liaison Lissa Kolkman's
announcement to the BIA regarding
benches, another property owner
announced that he had ordered
several other benches for downtown
Blyth.
Shane Yerema of the soon -to -open
Hotel Lux at the corner of Dinsley
and Queen Streets announced he had
ordered benches through blacksmith
James Wallace, as had DEAMS
Holdings Inc., owned by David and
Annie Sparling.
DEAMS had ordered three
benches while Yerema had ordered
two.

The historical plaque project, co -
funded through Blyth Development
Partnership, is unveiling interesting
history according to project co-
ordinator David Sparling.
The project, identified through the
DestinationBLYTH project hosted
through Regional Tourism
Organization 4 (RTO4), will see
historical plaques placed around the
village telling the story of the
buildings they are attached to, as
well as marking the location of
previous buildings.
Sparling told the BIA during its
meeting that significant portions of
the village had burned down at the
hands of an arsonist at the turn of the
20th century.
He said he hopes to identify
those buildings through the
project with specially -marked signs.

While members of the BIA were
happy that Blyth Union Cemetery
had been cleaned up prior to the
Blyth Legion's annual decoration
service, it was noted that other
locations throughout the village
maintained by North Huron could
also use some tidying up.
The Greenway Trail, part of the
Goderich-to-Guelph (G2G) Rail
Trail was once such location, with
individuals commenting on the
presence of ATVs and the area
feeling unkempt.
Alongside concerns about street
cleaning and street sweeping, as well
as watering of downtown plants, the
BIA planned to be prepared to
address North Huron Council if the
issues aren't rectified.

I cannot think little of sin, when...
(J.C. Ryle)
"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Matthew 27:46
Would I know how exceedingly sinful and abominable sin is in the sight of God?
Where shall I see sin most fully brought out?
Shall I turn to the history of the flood, and read how sin drowned the world?
Shall I go to the shore of the Dead Sea, and mark what sin brought on Sodom and
Gomorrah?
No! I can find a clearer proof still! I look at the cross of Christ!
There I see that sin is so filthy and damnable, that nothing but the blood of God's
own Son can wash it away!
There I see that sin has so separated me from my holy Maker, that all the angels in
Heaven could never have made peace between us. Nothing could reconcile us, short
of the death of Christ.
If I listened to the wretched talk of proud people, I might sometimes imagine that
sin was not so very sinful! But I cannot think little of sin, when I look at the cross
of Christ!
