Warm weather a welcome change in Walton
PEOPLE AROUND
WALTON

We have waited and wanted for
warmer weather and boy we sure got
it. It's welcome for sure and with a
little shower of rain, the crops will
really take off. Great news for the
farmers when it seemed like spring
and wet, cool weather would never
end.
We send out our get -well wishes to
Leona Armstrong as she has suffered
a fall and has a broken hip. I
understand she came through the
surgery very well and we hope she
has a good recovery time.
Welcome to Lois Thompson, who
is now at Huronlea. We hope she
enjoys her new surroundings and
many old friends.
The shed at Tim Fritz's farm got a
lift last week with the placing of the
trusses. Watching the crane lift
things is always exciting for the kids
to see.
We are pleased to hear Glen
Warwick is home from a London
hospital after a four-month stay. He
tires easily but short visits can be
enjoyed.
It was a happy occasion for the
Van Veen family as Case and Martha
(Van Veen) De Boer celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary. The Van
Veen siblings, Pete and Margaret,
Garret and Helen and Clara and
DeBoer siblings gathered at
Benmiller for a celebration lunch.
Congratulations!
Welcome back to Rick and
Margaret Mclnroy who have
returned from a Panama Canal
cruise. They caught the cruise ship
"Celebrity Infinity" in Fort
Lauderdale and cruised to San
Diego.There were 2,100 passengers,
65 different nationalities and almost
as many crew aboard. They enjoyed
great food and entertainment and we
will be waiting to hear some of the
jokes at an evening with Rick and
Graeme Craig in the fall. It was
extremely hot and humid. They
visited with Rick's cousin in San
Diego and the highlight was a visit
with Darryl and Karla Button and

family. Karla was a King from
Brussels.They live in Newport, north
of San Diego. Great time but nice to
be home.
It was a happy day for celebrating
in our family on Sunday. The
McDonalds gathered in New
Hamburg to celebrate the fourth
birthday of Kelly and Adam's son,
Owen Jarosz. Grandpa Rick and
Grandma Jo were in charge of Brea
and Wes McDonald. The party began
without Scott and Alicia attending,
as they were busy at Stratford
Hospital. We all patiently awaited
the news of the birth of our new
grandson.
He waited until suppertime to
arrive and we now have Nate
Kenneth to love. There are plenty of
excited siblings and McDonald
family members!
Welcome back to Neil Turnbull.
He is here for his yearly visit with
family, checking his properties and
looks forward to seeing many
familiar faces at the Lions Club draw
this weekend.
The Brussels Ladies' birthday
bunch gathered at JR's last week for
a great meal and fun visit. The
FROM WALTON
birthday ladies included Isabelle
Wheeler Rachel Grosvenor, Deanna
Searle, Miles Linton, Jolene
McNichol, Rod Fritz, Thea Rijkhof,
Marisa Curreri, Krysta Clarke, Geri -
Lee Godkin, Adam Forbes and Rob
Shortreed. Happy birthday all!
MacDonald ordained

London on Saturday to celebrate the
Ordination of our Brussels and
Blyth Student Intern, Hillary
MacDonald. Now she's a full-blown
Minister in the United Church of
Canada from London Conference.
We say farewell to Hillary, who
came to us from London and is now
heading to Calgary to start her next
chapter of Life.
This party was part of the 94th
annual meeting of London
Conference and its last. After
general council this summer, the
legalities are in place to do new
things in our governance. Our area
will be part of Region 8, one of 16
newly -established regions across
Canada with new ways to do the
work of the United Church.
Being people of faith, celebration
and anticipation was the mood of
the whole weekend as we
acknowledged the 94 past years that
gave us good foundation, excellent
leadership and many fine examples
of the United Church doing its best
work.
We're in exciting times as we
make preparations for a new future.
I hope you have your Lions ticket
for Saturday night, good food, good
company and good cause.
With all this warm weather, the
Brussels pool should be a good
temperature. Activity or exercise or
relaxation in the pool are all good.
Adult times are available so plan to
use this convenient spot over the
summer.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
