United Church to visit Huronlea A NOTE FROM BETTY Kicking it off Organizers of the Brussels Farmers' Market held a special parade to mark the moving of the market from its previous outdoor location to the new Four Winds Barn down the street. Kathy Stephenson, market co-ordinator, and piper Don Martin made their way down main street as part of the opening festivities at the market's first day. For the United Church folk, be aware that there is no service in the church this Sunday, instead we're going to worship and visit with our friends who live in Huronlea. So you can stay in bed as long as you like, just be there for a 2 p.m. service. Mark that down now. I just love how Mother Nature can make the world pause. Driving on Western Road in London on Sunday, I noticed the traffic had paused with no regard to the traffic lights. Approaching the next traffic light I was able to observe a very sedate parade of eight adult Canada geese Catch the Ace draw jackpot still in play By Jo -Ann McDonald The week at the Brussels Legion Branch began with the regular general meeting with 10 Comrades in attendance. The usual business was discussed and reports given. The office has now been gutted and is in the process of being insulated and drywalled. It was questioned about when the upstairs renovations would begin and the answer was, hopefully in June. Many of the normal events will be over in May such as the Cadets and the last Lions Club meal for the season. Comrades Eric Ross and Bon Richardson played in a zone golf competition on the weekend. They finished seventh and will advance to district play in July. The Saturday afternoon euchre had 10 tables at play on Saturday. Winners were: high, Carol and Susan, 71; second and third, tied, Brussels Majestic WI visits Bruce Power The Majestic Women's Institute of Brussels met at the home of Lucy Hesse on May 10 at 8:30 a.m. Convenors Kathy Bridge and Lucy Hesse arranged the institute's annual mystery tour meeting. Five members and two guests headed northwest to arrive at the mystery destination in Tiverton, the Bruce Power Visitor Centre, built in the 1980s. The centre is open to the public and is free. The group arrived to friendly greetings from the guide Chris Mercanti. After a very informative Power Point presentation on the basics of nuclear energy and the safety in place for staff, they were able to look around at the information centre's interactive displays. Chris arranged a shuttle for them to tour the actual plant. They had to show identification at the gate while the shuttle was checked by security. The plant was built in the 1960s and started to produce hydro in 1967. After the tour, they returned to the visitor centre and loaded back into their vehicle and headed off to a mystery location for lunch. They arrived in Kincardine to enjoy a wonderful meal of fish and chips at the Erie Bell. Then they went to another mystery destination on their way home. They stopped at Pine River Cheese in Ripley. They were offered samples of its many cheeses. Then they headed back to Brussels. Thank you to all who made this year's annual mystery tour a great success. Joann MacDonald and Dorothy Carter and Bruce and Joan Dow, 70; lone hands, Jean and Alice, five and low, Bruce and Carol Hoelscher, 42. We are still looking for volunteers to help at the euchres. Call the Branch if interested. The Sunday Night dance had a very small crowd to enjoy the music of Crippled Duck. The Barn Dance Campout in Blyth must have tired everyone out, but those attending had lots of room to dance and spin. The Catch the Ace draw was on Friday evening and we have a two- time winner. Mike Alexander won for the second time winning $237 but his envelope, number 39 held the two of clubs, so the ace lives on! Projected jackpot this week is $2,800. The karaoke evening with Stubby D had a great crowd of nearly 50 enjoying the music, fun singing and fun time. The fish fry crew was in Clinton at the new arena for the first time. They cooked for those attending the Clinton Spring Fair Ambassador event. Comrades Deb Ross, Norm Dobson, Sharon Robbins and Judy Lee were kept busy feeding the 150 attending. All positive comments were heard.
