On Tuesday fed steers and heifers sold actively at easier prices. Choice steers and heifers sold $148 to $151 with a high of $160. Second cut sold $143 to $148. Cows sold actively at higher prices. On Thursday veal calves sold on an active trade. Right weight calves sold steady while heavier calves sold at prices $1 to $2 higher. Lambs sold steady, sheep sold higher and goats sold barely steady. On Friday grass and choice type calves sold steady with second cut calves selling on an easier market. Yearlings sold $2 to $3 higher. Ron Smith of Denfield, consigned nine heifers that averaged 1,377 lbs. and sold for an average price of $150.39. Two charolais heifers averaged 1,443 lbs. and sold for an average price of $151.25. John Vanbakel of Bornholm, consigned five heifers that averaged 1,291 lbs. and sold for an average price of $147.65. Two charolais heifers averaged 1,213 lbs. and sold for an average price of $148.75. Franz Gutknecht of Atwood, consigned 20 steers that averaged 1,398 lbs. and sold for an average price of $145.06. (HannahDickiephoto) Durnin named club president By Michaela Rodger The first meeting of the Lucknow 4-H Beef Club was held on Monday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at the Lucknow Legion. Leaders this year are Holly Holyoake, Christine Maclntyre, Kristie Gilchrist, Shannon Ritchie and Mike Metske. To start off the meeting, members did the 4-H pledge prior to the leaders acknowledging Connor Rodger for winning Grand Champion Showperson at the Royal Winter Fair 2017. The members voted on the executive: President, Maggie Durnin; Vice -President, Megan Metske, Press Reporter, Michaela Rodger; Secretary, Queenie and Eugina Pentland and Treasurer, Melissa MacIntyre. After nominations, the club discussed how points work, farm visits and projects. The leaders passed around a Youth Leader Program along with a Ministry of Agriculture rabies booklet. As a club, members discussed ideas for other meetings — the Dungannon Fair and fundraisers.
