(Hannah Dickie photo) Few registered for election By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen Despite nominations opening on May 1 for this fall's municipal election, very few candidates have officially filed papers to let their name stand this October. Colleen Schenk, the incumbent trustee with the Avon Maitland District School Board for North Huron, Morris-Turnberry and Howick, is running again, hoping to win a seventh term on the board. In Central Huron, while he has yet to officially do so, Mayor Jim Ginn announced that he plans to seek re- election for the municipality's top spot. Ginn told his council at the Monday, May 7 council meeting that he planned to run again this October. In Morris-Turnberry, Andrew Somers has filed to run for a councillor position, while in Huron East, Curtis McKinnon has submitted his name to be a councillor in the Grey Ward. As of Tuesday morning, no one had filed papers in North Huron. The Citizen will update the list of candidates every week until the election, which is set for Oct. 22. go - Londesborough Lions Club PPAa E lJ OR (LC / N011 i Luc 7» ou,73,9),rt- -RIRTy roup -/, {, "DOLLARS 100 DATE yr, Now pitching... Committees coming Continued from page 1 immediately after the public meeting, board members thought it would be best to seek public committee members. Going back several years, McLellan said the priority laid out for the centre was the expansion and addition of dressing rooms at the centre. While those remain a concern, he said, the public needs to have its say about what else they'd like to see improved at the centre and what they'd be willing to fundraise in order to help out. The decision was made to advertise for a building committee, he said, so the board could get to work on making recommendations for the renovation of the centre. He said that initially the board didn't feel that a fundraising committee needed to be struck right away. However, members felt it wouldn't hurt to begin that process and called for members on that committee as well. Board member John Lowe said that the board has received an offer from Nicole Jutzi, who was at the head of fundraising for the Wingham and Area Hospital's Our Hospital Our Future campaign, to come and advise the committee on potential fundraising avenues. With letters of interest due to the board by June 1, McLellan says the board is aiming to strike the two committees at its next meeting in June. Your Local Paper - The Original Social Media!
