The first appearance of the village's newest holiday attraction the "Living Snow Globe" caused
quite a stir when it was set up in Clan Gregor Square for the tree lighting on Nov. 18. Rich and
Erin Samuell, and their sons Will and Eddie, were a "Bayfield Family in their Natural Habitat".
On the Saturday afternoon of Christmas in Bayfield weekend, Nov. 19, members of Bayfield
Sparks, Brownies and Guides set up a pretend campfire in the globe to "roast" marshmallows
by. And Girl Guides can't have a campfire without a sing -a -long so they performed several of
their favorite campfire songs as well as some festive carols as shoppers past by.
Members of the Bayfield Arena Community Partners Association were the next to take up
residence in the snow globe and they brought with them everything required to enjoy "Hockey
Night in Bayfield". The Bayfield Breeze is pleased to report that super fans of both the Toronto
Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings coexisted peacefully within the confines of the globe.
"Cluck Cluck Christmas" was the theme inside the Snow Globe on the afternoon of Sunday,
Nov. 27. The Village Bookshop Silkies, known as the Teddy Bears of the poultry world,
charmed passersby with their satiny good looks and holiday garb. The owners of the Village
Bookshop and Shopbike Coffee Roasters created the exhibit combining birds, books and
coffee in a delightfully festive display.
Saturday, Dec. 3, the Snow Globe traveled to Bayfield Foodland in support of the Bayfield Tree
Project Tree Sales event. The Bayfield Skating Club members demonstrated that they could
skate any where, any time with the mini rink they created inside the globe.
The "Living Snow Globe" is scheduled to make two more appearances in the village this
holiday season. Be on the look out for it in front of the Bayfield Public Library on Dec. 10 wher
the Bayfield Ukuele Society will take a turn in the spotlight. And then on Dec. 17, The Santa
Run Committee will present, "Lazy Santa" at The Ashwood Inn to coincide with the Santa Run

ARCHIVIST NEEDED
The Bayfield Historical Society Board (BHSB)

I -VOLUNTEER MATCHES PEOPLE WITH
PROJECTS
Imagine finding a volunteer opportunity that matches your talents, skills and schedule, an
opportunity that is close by and interests you. Imagine finding interested volunteers; individuals
that understand what you are looking for and reach out to your organization. Thanks to funding
from the Social Research and Planning Council (SRPC) and a $9,800 grant from Ontario
Trillium Foundation that was made in late 2015, and further support from United Way Perth -
Huron, Huron Business Development Corporation and the County of Huron this is now a reality
across Perth and Huron Counties.
"Congratulations on today's launch of the I -Volunteer website," said Perth -Wellington MPP
Randy Pettapiece. "Thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and many other organizations,
the I -Volunteer website offers "everything volunteer" to the people of Perth (and Huron)
County."
The I -Volunteer website was launched in Perth County on Nov. 29 and in Huron County on
Nov. 30. The new website provides a matching service between volunteer opportunities and
volunteers within our communities.
"Today's volunteers range from simply wanting to give a specific amount of time and energy
that fits their schedule to individuals that are focused on expanding their skills and talents to
achieve new goals," said Tracy Birtch, director of the SRPC, a supported partner of United
Way. "However finding the opportunity that fits can be a challenge — that's where I -Volunteer
Perth -Huron steps in."
The website was developed with the guidance of the SRPC Volunteer Working Group, with
representatives from across both counties.
"We are so excited to watch this online volunteer portal become the go -to conduit between
potential volunteers in our county and the organizations who need them," said Kate Schillings,
a representative from the Stratford Library.
The website is available to all non -profits and individuals across Perth and Huron Counties and
can be found at ivolunteerperthhuron.ca. A link is also available through
www.perthhuron.unitedway.ca

IPM SOUVENIR TRUCK ROLLING
ALONG
The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) is a sought-after event for a community to host as it
brings with it the opportunity to generate profits that are donated back to the community. Selling IPM 2017
souvenirs leading up to the event goes towards covering the costs of hosting the Match, ultimately increasing
the opportunity for Huron County hosting a prosperous IPM. For the IPM enthusiast, the most sought after
item is the collector truck. The IPM is full of traditions and commissioning a souvenir truck is one of them. For
the first time, the IPM souvenir collector truck is a tri -axle highway tractor with a tri -axle livestock trailer with
a colorful decal paying homage to the previous four matches held in Huron County on the top of the truck.
Souvenir items can also be purchased by calling Allan and Karen Carter at 519 522-0399 or by email at

Quite possibly the largest crowd ever attended the
Bayfield Lions' Club's Annual Christmas Turkey
Bingo held on the evening of Dec. 5.
It was guesstimated that more than 200 folks had
their Bingo dabbers and plastic markers at the
ready in anticipation of winning one of 15 turkeys
or five share the wealth prizes at the event held at
the Bayfield Community Centre. In fact several
attendees waited in the entrance way for about 20
minutes while Lions' members put up all the
tables and chairs available to provide seating.

Probably the biggest crowd in Turkey Bingo history came through the door of the Bayfield Community Centre on
Monday night. Some folks waited in the entrance way and out into the parking lot for about 20 minutes as the
club members set up all the available tables and chairs to make room for eager players. (JP photo)
Luck was with the lady on the left as she procured a turkey during a Bingo -off. (MFP photo)
They even rounded up some corn kernels to use
as markers on the cards to ensure people could
play.
Those gathered were heady with friendly
competition during most games multiple Bingos
were called thus resulting in the ever -thrilling
"Bingo -off". The person with the next number
called on their winning card went home with a
turkey, the others $5 to put toward the family
feast. Cash prizes for the share the wealth games
were healthy as well - averaging between $130
and $147.
Those people who enjoyed the exhilaration which
comes with shouting "Bingo", and even those who
did not, enjoyed taking part in a fun Bayfield
tradition on a pleasant December night helping
the Bayfield Lions' Club raise some funds for their
many community projects in the process.
Bill Rowat and Bill Steenstra kept a watchful eye on one of
eight potential winning tickets in a share the wealth
round. The large crowd boosted the cash prizes as high as
$147. (MFP photo)

SUBMISSIONS
Did you know that the Bayfield Breeze website has an Archives section where you can go and revisit issues past? Just scroll
up to our banner and you will see the button you can push to view all eight volumes. I visit these issues regularly to make sure
that I don't repeat myself too much. After all we have many, many annual events and it is a challenge to keep things fresh when
they roll around again.
I remember my first full year as a reporter when I worked at the Clinton News -Record every event was new to me and that
proved quite exhilarating. And then a New Year commenced and I suddenly realized I was now in a lather, rinse and repeat
scenario career wise.
However, I also learned that no two annual events are quite the same as the people involved add the color and paint the scene.
So this year as I attend events like the 11 th annual Breakfast with Santa, the 137th annual Lions' Turkey Bingo (It's a joke people, you should have
attended!) or the second annual Santa Run it is with a continued zeal for sharing the stories that transpire as these events unfold. Hope to see you out and
about. — Melody
Ideas and contributions to the Bayfield Breeze are always welcome.
Deadlines for submissions are Sundays at 4 p.m.
