Please join members of the Bayfield River Valley Trail Association (BRVTA) and the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy (HTLTC), the future owners and trustee of the property, at The Ashwood Inn on Saturday, Dec. 3rd for a cocktail party. Everyone will have the opportunity to give some input on a vision for the River Flats during the event that will begin at 7 p.m. There will be lots of good cheer, door prizes and river music to compliment a cash bar. The fundraising committee has all been left speechless by the unprecedented donor support from the Bayfield community to add this 4.75 -acre parcel of riverbank property with over 1,000 feet of river frontage to the village's inventory of parkland and green space. Over 200 donors from the village, and many parts of North America, have contributed to guarantee that the River Flats Natural Area will remain a public space for generations to come. Donations received beyond the total purchase price are being held in trust by the HTLTC for the future development and maintenance of the property. This was truly a grass roots initiative. Closing date for the purchase is currently set for Dec. 15. A great deal of work has gone into developing Trustee and Management Agreements and the River Flats Management Committee is currently in the process of formulating ideas about what can and should be done in the short term in 2017 before the start of bridge construction.
