NATURAL HERITAGE PLAN The County of Huron has drafted the Huron Natural Heritage Plan to conserve the environmental systems and features, which are widely valued by county residents. The community's countryside supports many different land uses. While the prominence and benefits of agriculture are obvious, natural systems also provide vitally important social, economic and environmental services to the residents of Huron County. The Huron Natural Heritage Plan (HNHP) defines natural heritage systems within Huron County and identifies tools to enhance and protect features like woodlots, rivers, ponds and meadows. The plan consists of two documents the HNHP Technical Document and the HNHP Implementation Strategy. The HNHP Technical Document describes the methodology used to identify significant natural features and the natural heritage system in Huron County. The HNHP Implementation Strategy defines the approach to protecting natural heritage features. The success of the plan depends on landowners, municipalities and agencies working together to conserve our collective natural heritage. The public is invited to provide input on the plan, which can be viewed at huroncounty.ca/huron- natural-heritage-plan. Please forward comments to events@littleinn.com, or call toll-free at 1-888-524- 8394 Ext. 3 or attend an information open house. The next Open House will be held at the Zurich Arena, 15 East St. in Zurich on Oct. 27. It is all about how your wishes can come true when the First of Octember rolls around "because May is too early and June is too soon". Yesterday Graham and I started our day bouncing in a honey pot, shooting the evil ZZs for Buzz Lightyear, riding in a clam shell through Ariel's Grotto, racing our horses on a carousel, spinning in tea cups and sailing around the globe. We followed this up with a high speed private boat ride to a land filled with wonderful things like giant Lego Sea Serpents and build your own Lego race cars. We stopped at a spot where they hand you free chocolate samples and then we shared the most Melody Falconer -Pounder "amazingly awesome" chocolate milk shake. Later we enjoyed a dinner together in a restaurant where we played games with bottles of ketchup while watching hobby horse races and dining on chicken fingers and french fries. And then before bedtime he swam in a pool that had water slides and a terrific splash pad. During our evening storytime ritual, I said, "Guess what Graham?" "What?" he said. "I think today was the first of Octember." He smiled and said, "I think you're right. Now we just need a skateboard TV!" Well, we are in Disney World, my dear grandson, so anything seems possible but maybe we will have to wait for the Second of Octember for that wish to come true! - Gramel P.S.
