REMEMBRANCE DAY Remembrance Day 2014 will mark 100 years since the first war to end all wars. That is just one reason the community is encouraged to honor all those who have endeavored to keep the citizens of this country safe for decades as well as those who continue to do so on a daily basis. The Village of Bayfield will celebrate Remembrance Day on Nov. 9 starting at 10:45 a.m. at the cenotaph in Clan Gregor Square. Bayfield's services are held on the Sunday prior to Nov. 11, when musicians and clergy can avail themselves to the smaller centres. The outdoor portion of the ceremony will begin with a parade of veterans, legion representatives, and local members of Guiding and Scouting marching along Main Street to the cenotaph. The indoor portion of the service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church following the time at the cenotaph. CPH AUXILIARY cc.villageofbayfield.com/Members/Bayfield Breeze/Week44issue278/tabid/692/Default.aspx 1/10 5/31/2019 Week 44 Issue 278 The grandchildren of John and Mary Becker won the Bluewater Communities in Bloom (CIB) contest with a colorful bale sculpture that has attracted a steady stream of admirers since being built in September. The sculpture can be seen from the street and consists of a stack of three -square bales with a round bale on top. It is decorated with orange, white and grey/blue pumpkins and gourds plus ornaments of other textures. The Bluewater Hay Bale Sculpture Contest was just one aspect of the local committee's implementation of "community involvement" for the provincial CIB's program. The sculpture was the only entry and organizers with the Bluewater Committee hope this will raise interest from other creative farm owners. They would love to have a hay bale trail across Bluewater for visitors to see each August and September! Elise Feltrin, minister of St. Andrew's United Church, would like to invite people to join in some honest discussion about the subject no one wants to talk about. St. Andrew's will host two evenings of reflecting and exploring with others, their own feelings about death and dying ... with the hope that it will transform how they live. By creating a safe place to explore and discuss this often taboo subject, with lightness and gentle humor, it is hoped that participants will come to a better understanding of themselves and their feelings about death. In turn, this may lead to enhanced relationships and more fullness of living. All are welcome to attend one or both evenings. The discussions will be held on Nov. 12 and Nov. 26 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Feltrin at 519 565-2854 or email efeltrin@tcc.on.ca. The hike was hosted by the Bayfield River Valley Trail Association. Pole walking is a very popular activity in Bayfield and several enthusiasts took part in the Fitness Hike on Thursday morning. And now the BRVTA look forward to some fine hiking in November. The air is beginning to have a late fall crispness and leaves rustle and crunch under your feet as you hike, at this time of year. Hikers may see small groups of robins fly from shrub to tree in lowlands along the river and of course the sound of geese gathering will be heard somewhere close by. It is a great time to wander along trails and enjoy one last beautiful day before the weather changes. The BRVTA members hope that this one last beautiful day will be Sunday, Nov. 9, as they offer a guided hike of the Sawmill Trail starting at 1 p.m. Celebrate Christmas in Bayfield with a family hike. Children and their families are invited to hike the Sawmill Trail and decorate a Christmas tree with treasures for birds and animals of the forest. All participating in the hike will be able to make a treat for the birds and hang it on the tree. Materials will be provided in exchange for a donation to the food bank. A draw will be held for several children's hiking tool kits at the end of the hike. Adults please join in the woodland Christmas season celebration with the children. This is an easy, leisurely hike of 1.7 KMs. Meet at the trail entrance at the end of Sawmill Road, or contact your hike leader if you wish to car-pool from Clan Gregor Square. The Hike Leaders are Helen Varekamp, 519 565- 5442 and Jerry Selk, 519 565- 2749. I have listed a few things on there but apparently my trash isn't very treasured. I'm trying not to take it personally. One of the items I'm trying to find a home for doesn't actually belong to me but to a family member who no longer has the space for it. So if anyone knows someone that might have a use for a Thomas Playmate 1979 Electric Organ, complete with bench seat and sheet music, send me an email. When he was younger my great-nephew use to perform "Feliz Navidad" on it at family Christmas gatherings but now he's a university student so the novelty has warn off. I'd be happy just to have the memories hopefully someone else would be happy to have the organ. — Melody Ideas and contributions to the Bayfield Breeze are always welcome.
