This art piece created by Farid Fadel was selected by the women of Egypt to accompany their World Day of Prayer service themed, "Streams in the Desert". Knox Presbyterian Church in Bayfield will host the World Day of Prayer service on the afternoon of March 7. The women of Egypt are the creators of this year's program. This interdenominational service open to both men and women will begin at 2 p.m. The origins of World Day of Prayer date back to the 19th century when Christian women of the United States and Canada initiated a variety of cooperative activities in support of women's involvement in mission at home and in other parts of the world. These activities related to the following areas: concern for women and children, the role of prayer in mission work, a vision of Christian unity, study, the organization of interdenominational structures by women and world peace. PHOTOS AND STORY BY MELODY FALCONER -POUNDER Several people escaped the cold on Saturday morning by heading to the Bayfield Library where their senses were soothed by the sweet sounds of harp music. Sharon Johnston, and six of her adult students, captivated an audience of more than 30 people, with their harp playing, part of the "Show Me Series" organized by the Friends of the Bayfield Library (FOBL). Following about 40 minutes of both group and solo performance the audience was invited to try their hand at the harps and a number of adults enthusiastically gave it a try with help from the students and under the direction of Johnston. In fact after about 20 minutes these potential students were playing recognizable tunes on the instruments making it a very successful event for all involved. Adria Graham was one of six adult students to share their harp playing skills at the library on Saturday. cc.viIIageofbayfieId.com/Members/BayfieldBreeze/Week7Issue241/tabid/655/DefauIt.aspx 5/8 5/31/2019 7657 Week 7 Issue 241 snaron Johnston, with the help or her harp students, led several people in an opportunity to try playing the harp during Saturday's instalment of the "Show Me Series" hosted by the Friends of the Bayfield Library. OPTIMIST 4 7"a So Bayfield Guiding is taking the Quebec Chocolate Challenge for a special badge created by our sisters in la belle province. Last night we learned how to properly taste chocolate — we smelled it, noted the mouth melt and examined it for gloss. In between we cleansed our palettes with bites of green apple. The girls from five years old to 12 years old were riveted to the task. It was so much fun to see them so engaged in their work and also to see their faces when they tried the 85 per cent cacao. Priceless! Over the next few meetings we will learn about the history of chocolate and the countries in which it is grown — we'll discover fair trade and try everything from the ages old Aztec Hot Chocolate to Almond Joy. We'll finish things off with a chocolate fondue party! Yep, in this our 60th anniversary in Bayfield, it is a good time to be a Guider. - Melody cc.villageofbayfield.com/Members/BayfieldBreeze/Week7lssue241 /tabid/655/Default.aspx 7/8 5/31/2019 Week 7 Issue 241 Ideas and contributions to the Bayfield Breeze are always welcome.
