ELECTIONS 2014
As the New Year dawns so does the campaign for
municipal councils — as an election will be held on
Oct. 27.
On Jan. 2, Bill Dowson announced his intentions to
seek another term on the Municipality of Bluewater
Council. Currently serving as Mayor, Dowson has
served his community on municipal and county
council for over 25 years.
"I've tried to treat everyone with respect and sincerity
and plan to do so in the future, if elected," said
Dowson at the time of the announcement.

The Bayfield Town Hall was decorated to ring in 2014 on the evening of Dec. 31.
The New Year was welcomed in by more than 65
people, who joined in the first New Year's Eve "Black
and White" Celebration at the Bayfield Town Hall.
Guests joined in the theme, by dressing up or down in black and white and on arrival were
adorned with other festive accessories, including New Year's tiaras and trilby hats. The town
hall was transformed into a black, white, silver and gold wonderland to welcome in 2014.
With guests dancing to the music of DJ Anthony of Starsoundz Music, the hall was soon
buzzing!
With guests dancing to the music of DJ Anthony of Starsoundz Music, the hall was soon buzzing!
A slight technical hitch prevented the crowd from watching live coverage of the New York
Times Square ball drop, but revellers soon rallied around their own count -down to the New
Year, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine, tooting horns and a massive balloon drop
from the ceiling! This was followed by a rousing chorus by all of "Auld Lang Syne".
Music and dancing continued till well past the midnight hour and according to quotes from
guests it was a "great party"! In fact people attended from as far away as Toronto and Tavistock
to join in the celebrating.
As part of their efforts to reduce drinking and driving, the Bayfield Town Hall Heritage Society
(BTHHS) offered free soft drinks all evening and also a free ride home to anyone who felt they
might be over the legal limit.
for the coveted "Soup's On" ladles!
The afternoon event will run from 2-4 p.m.

EMPTIES FOR
ALZHEI ERS
Two Bayfield women would like to remind everyone
preparing for holiday gatherings that their tradition of
collecting empties for Alzheimer's Disease is
continuing this year.
Dianne Brandon and Carrie Sabourin will be
participating in the 2014 Walk for Memories on Jan.
19 in Bayfield and are now collecting donations for
the cause.
It is, of course, hoped that everyone will celebrate
responsibly this festive season and when doing so
plan to donate the empty beer bottles and cans; wine
and liquor bottles to their team, "For the Love of
Elane and Doris". The ladies being honored are
currently living with Alzheimers, Elane Brandon,
Sabourin's grandmother, and Doris Schilbe, Dianne's
mother.

A RETROSPECTIVE OF VILLAGE HAPPENINGS FROM MAY 1 TO AUG. 20
THE BEST OF THE BAYFIELD BREEZE 2013
PHOTOS AND STORY BY MELODY
FALCONER -POUNDER
The summer of 2013 was a remarkable one for
this village — not only did we do all the usual great
stuff that we do but we had the good fortune to cut
some ribbons on two new great village attributes —
the Clan Gregor Square Splash Pad and the
Bayfield Library Complex.

Hill (left) and Maitland Roy marvelled at the ease at which Snippety the Clown created their balloon wishes
Saturday afternoon at the Bayfield Lions' Club's Home and Garden Show.
May 8 - Issue 201 - SPRING IN THE VILLAGE - THE ART OF TREE REMOVAL ON MAIN STREET: Main Street
Bayfield was alive with activity on the morning of May 6 when Taylor Tree Service, of Grand Bend, a division of
Arbortech Professional Tree Care, worked with Cameron Crane, of London, to remove a dead English Walnut
from the rear of The Red Pump Restaurant. The tree was taken out in sections. The removal of a large
horizontal limb is pictured here.
According to our MP Ben Lobb, we are now the
envy of many communities in his jurisdiction.
Apparently, the top two items on neighboring
towns and village's wish lists are public
washrooms for their Main Street and a Splash
Pad.
So now is the time to sit back, reflect and maybe
bask a little in our achievements in the second
installment of our year in review from May 1 to
Aug. 20.
Sprinkled through the photos are some of the
wonderful emails that we receive throughout the
year - words of encouragement when deadlines
need to be met!

Sunday, June 16, got off to a foggy start but that just made the art all that more warm and inviting to look at.
Later in the afternoon, however, the sun did prevail making for a lovely conclusion to the events of the Sail and
Canvas Festival weekend. Art by Ivan was just one of about 20 artists and artisans who set up booths along
Main Street during the festival.
HEARTs AND HOMES OF VILLAGERS: A group of about 40
people joined the opera singers for a cycle around the
town on Sunday morning. They were led along the route

heritage sites they saw along the way. (Photo by Gary
