TOWN HALL The Goderich Celtic Roots Festival and the Bayfield Town Hall are teaming up to bring traditional and contemporary music to the village in the form of a three piece Celtic Band from the United Kingdom on Aug. 6. Now in its fourth year, the Rural Roots Concert Series is designed to bring world-class Celtic music into rural venues across Huron County. According to the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival website, this allows festival organizers to "maximize the benefit of the caliber of musicians visiting Huron County during the week of the Celtic Roots Festival." The band, known as Cupola, will perform in both music and song. In addition, Goderich youth, Kieran Melady will perform as opening act. Cupola is comprised of Sarah Matthews, Doug Eunson and Oli Matthews. They play English and European dance music, and sing English songs in three-part harmony. The trio, also, make fine use of melodeons, fiddles, viola, soprano saxophone, clarinet and hurdy-gurdy. Tickets are now available for the 7:30 p.m. concert at the Bayfield Town Hall. GARDEN TOUR In April, a small group of dedicated gardeners united to develop a map highlighting gardens in Huron and Perth Counties open to the public for tours. Plans were to feature garden businesses with display gardens as well as businesses selling garden based merchandised. It was hoped that for this year a one -day garden tour could be organized as a trial run with full season garden tours to begin next year. So far the group appears to be right on target with the "Undiscovered Gardens Huron -Perth Tour" set for July 14. The first tour boasts 15 gardens on display in both town and country in the areas of Wingham, Gowanstown, Gorrie, Wroxeter, Walton, Blyth, Auburn, Goderich, Bayfield, Zurich and St. Joseph. Nearby CovenTree Gardens, Huron Ridge Acres and Brentwood on the Beach are all featured on the tour. This day will give visitors a chance to see the private gardens of Carol and Dave Steckle at Huron Ridge Acres as well as the tranquil oasis created at Brentwood on the Beach, the lakeside bed and breakfast owned by Joan and Peter Karstens. Visitors may also see blue bird babies on the Blue Bird Trail a highlight of CovenTree Gardens created by Pat McDougall and Shelagh Sully. cc.villageofbayfield.com/Members/BayfieldBreeze[Week291ssuel58/tabid/569/Default.aspx 3/13 5/28/2019 Week 29 Issue 158 The owners of this 1964 Corvette Sting Ray came to the show from Barrie, ON. Shoppers can help purchase trees for the village simply by placing the pennies from their change in the bucket. The BTP's first focus, was planting along the Heritage Trail within the village. This is now complete and residents will start to see trees planted more widely throughout the village. Anyone who would like to plant a tree as a memorial for a person or event; should note that BTP is now able to plant "Memorial Trees" in a specific location on municipal property. Please contact Sondra Buchner at 519 565-2518 to learn more. The BTP's next tree planting will be this fall. But of course if local residents don't take care of the trees that have already been planted all of these fundraising efforts will be for naught. Our area trees are thirsty, especially those new trees planted both last year and this spring as part of the BTP. Residents are encouraged to keep watering these trees. New trees need one inch (2.5 cm) of water per week to survive. A slow trickle of water over several hours is the best method. Trees planted by the BTP can be found on Louisa, Anne, Charles, Howard, Colina and Jane Streets as well as on Bayfield Terrace and Victoria Place. Arts and crafts were an integral part of this year's Play Day as the Optimist Club teamed up with Kryart Studio and held the event in the studio's garden on Main Street. PHOTOS AND STORY BY MELODY FALCONER -POUNDER The Bayfield Optimists have found a new friend to play with. Play Day moved to the gardens at Kryart Studio for this year's event held on July 7. The move from the lawns at the Bayfield Town Hall to the gardens at 24 Main Street proved quite successful, while difficult to estimate exactly, it is estimated that about 100 children and parents took part in the two hour "come and go" event. The Optimists are very appreciative of the support of Kristyn Watterworth and her staff, who made arts and crafts a highlight of the morning. Although the venue was new, traditional favorite activities like face painting and balloon creations were continued. The very talented Jennifer Black and Snippity the Clown were kept busy as youngsters waited patiently for their turns in the make-up chairs. At the stroke of noon, Magician Daniel Steep, of Clinton, mystified the audience with his slight -of -hand and humor. Following the show, he shared his talents for balloon making delighting many youngsters with their hearts' desire. Summer appetites were sated too with hotdogs and watermelon served to all who wished to partake.
