a.m. to noon; 1-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. for a quiet time
of prayer and meditation. It will also serve as an
opportunity to remember those for whom Christmas
may not be a time of joy and hope.
As denotes the season, several special services are
scheduled at Trinity. They are as follows: Dec. 20,
9:30 a.m. - Carols and Hanging of the Greens Service;

A highlight of the evening was the debut of the church's new Baby Grand

Ralls and Bruce Ubukata conduct its inaugural performance. Ralls and
Ubukata will be familiar names to Bayfield residents as they host the
Aldeburgh Music Festival in the village each June.

Andrew's Canata. The duo performed on the church's new Baby Grand Piano. (Melody Falconer -Pounder photo)
The lessons were read by community guests as well as members of the
congregation. They were: Doug Wallis, Betty Morley, Rev. Angela Brands,
Rev. Susan Moore, Barb Howe, Mary Wolfe, Don Keillor, Melody Falconer -
Pounder and John Elmslie. Rev. Charles Love offered the opening and closing

The church was delightfully decorated for the season. A large Christmas tree
proved to be a focal point. It was set up and decorated by Elaine Dunn,
Bruce and Grace Koehler, John and Kathleen Siertsema and John
Crosthwaite.
The evening was video taped by Ian Siertsema.
LIONS' SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER
The members of the Bayfield Lions' Club spread Christmas cheer throughout
the village and area seniors' homes on Dec. 12 as part of their annual
Santa's Visit. For over 40 years the club members have been visiting the
octogenarians in the community or those people unable to get out and
about. This year they visited 55 people.
Fifty-five seniors, over the age of 80 years received a
visit from the Lions' Club membership on Dec. 12.
Esther Wright, a resident of Queensway Manor in
Hensall, and formerly of Bayfield, was one of the seniors
visited. (Larry Simpson photo)
The Bayfield Optimist Club sponsors the movie
night with free popcorn and juice boxes
provided; donations are always welcome to help
cover expenses.
The evening will begin with previews at 6:30
p.m. with the feature commencing at 7 p.m.
TOWN HALL
It has been 20 years since a committee was
formed to save the Bayfield Town Hall from
demolition. Since that time a number of
fundraising efforts have been held in an effort to
preserve it and make it a vital part of the
community social scene.
Now The Bayfield Town Hall Heritage Society is
looking to improve the entrance to the building
to make it more visibly appealing for weddings,
festivals, concerts and business meetings.
The latest fundraiser will be the sale of
commemorative bricks to be installed in the front
walk, at the hall entrance and a new walk
leading to the property's "great lawn".
The paving stones can be engraved to
showcase a family name, honor loved ones or
celebrate a special occasion such as a wedding
or an anniversary. They could even make a
unique family Christmas gift.
According to the fundraising brochure, "These
stones will be placed along the walkway so that
generations to come will enjoy this wonderful
legacy left in honor of the revitalization of the
town hall."
There are three stone styles to purchase: a
large stone, 8X12, with one line of engraving up
to 12 characters, $250; a medium stone, 8X8,
with one line of engraving up to 12 characters,
$100; and a place holder, 4X8, no engraving,
$50. Tax receipts will be provided. Cheques can
be made payable to The Bayfield Town Hall and
mailed to PO Box 2078, Bayfield ON, NOM 1 GO.
Further information can be obtained by
contacting Margo Robeson at 519 565-2827.
Organizations, school classes, businesses and
corporations are encouraged to be part of this
worthwhile community project.
The society hopes to have the brickwork
installed in the spring of next year.
FITNESS FUN
Just in time for those New Year's resolutions,
the exercise classes held at the Bayfield
Community Centre will start up again the week
of Jan. 4.

There are countless photographs of people in the Bayfield Historical Society's Archives
collection, but sadly their names were never recorded. In this section we will showcase
an image with the hopes that one of our subscribers might be able to identify the
individual(s) in the photo. Please email your information to the Editor's attention at the
address listed near the bottom of the page in "Submissions".
In Issue 23's "REMEMBER ME?" we
shared a photo taken in the Spring of
1977. It showed the Archives Building
being moved across Main Street to its
present location. Archivist Ralph Laviolette
is still wondering who donated the building
to the village and who owned the truck
doing the moving?

Carol McKay, of Toronto, was the lucky winner of the Toy Chest filled to overflowing with toys for children of all ages. Santa, himself
made the draw with Vice -President of the Optimists Mike Dixon. Over $1,300 was realized from the raffle.
The event, now in its fourth year is becoming a
tradition for some clans and the organizers are
very pleased that this appears to be the case.
A highlight of the lunch time event is the draw
for the toy chest. The sale of raffle tickets
netted the club $1,300. It was handcrafted by
Optimist Mike Dixon and professionally painted
by Jorge Parejo, of Nahuel Painting. The club
members donated a variety of toys to fill the
chest. This year's chest was won by Carol
McKay of Toronto.
The breakfast is a chance for the club to say
thank you to the community for their ongoing
support of fundraising projects over the
preceding year, but they couldn't run it
successfully without the generosity of Bayfield
Foodland, Brandon's Hardware, Bert Schilbe,
Fairholme Dairy and Outdoor Projects.
Optimists Reid Kinnear, John Pounder, and volunteer, Kevin Snell, satisfied a hungry crowd with an assortment of
breakfast delights.
Kevin Snell, of Bayfield, volunteered for kitchen duty during
Breakfast with Santa. He helped scramble the 20 dozen
eggs consumed.
Hayden Hessel, of Bayfield, checked out the goodies to be
found in Santa's sack.

Bailie Dayman, 7, of Bayfield, attended the breakfast with her grandparents. She was kept busy between
mouthfuls coloring on the paper tablecloth.
Odin, Tyler and Hayden Hesse[ enjoyed a hearty morning meal at the Fourth Annual Breakfast with Santa held at
the Bayfield Village Inn and hosted by the Optimist Club of Bayfield.
Emotions sometimes run high when it comes to an
encounter with Santa. Ansley Durand was definitely not
happy about the entire situation.
Newborn, Ueyton Durand, appeared to be cozy and content
in Santa's care.

So I'm not sure if it's the unseasonably warm weather through the month of November and early December, or a schedule that never
seems to allow the dust to settle, but I'm having trouble summoning the Christmas spirit this year. I mean it is Dec. 16 and my Christmas
tree is not up, I've barely started shopping and the ink is yet to dry on my Christmas cards; three very uncharacteristic traits in my ghosts
of Christmases past.
You'd think I'd be filled with worry and dread but I'm not.
In fact, I may have started to feel a bit of the old spirit simmering below the surface on Sunday. It could hardly be helped as the day
started with my annual participation in the Optimist Club of Bayfield's Breakfast with Santa and concluded by my giving a reading at the
St. Andrew's United Church Christmas Candlelight Cantata.
I am the official photographer at the breakfast, working alongside Santa, trying to capture a treasured keepsake of the event for parents
and children. It is a lot of fun to see the children progress from the age of no cares, through to bashfulness and fear, and then on to

It was my very first Cantata, although it has been something I've wanted to attend for a long time, thanks to Rosemary Crosthwaite who invited me to offer a reading during the service —
it was the perfect excuse to go! And it was a wonderfully, magical evening — it may have further awakened my Christmas spirit as I was singing carols to myself on the car ride home and
long into the evening afterwards. Now if I could just get that Christmas tree up!
