Since that time a number of fundraising efforts have been held in an effort to preserve it and make it a vital part of the community social scene. Now The Bayfield Town Hall Heritage Society is looking to improve the entrance to the building to make it more visibly appealing for weddings, festivals, concerts and business meetings. The latest fundraiser will be the sale of commemorative bricks to be installed in the front walk, at the hall entrance and a new walk leading to the property's "great lawn". The paving stones can be engraved to showcase a family name, honor loved ones or celebrate a special occasion such as a wedding or an anniversary. They could even make a unique family Christmas gift. According to the fundraising brochure, "These stones will be placed along the walkway so that generations to come will enjoy this wonderful legacy left in honor of the revitalization of the town hall." There are three stone styles to purchase: a large stone, 8X12, with one line of engraving up to 12 characters, $250; a medium stone, 8X8, with one line of engraving up to 12 characters, $100; and a place holder, 4X8, no engraving, $50. Tax receipts will be provided. Cheques can be made payable to The Bayfield Town Hall and mailed to PO Box 2078, Bayfield ON, NOM 1 GO. Further information can be obtained by contacting Margo Robeson at 519 565-2827. Organizations, school classes, businesses and corporations are encouraged to be part of this worthwhile community project. The society hopes to have the brickwork installed in the spring of next year. Santa, himself made the draw with Vice -President of the Optimists Mike Dixon. Over $1,300 was realized from the raffle. The event, now in its fourth year is becoming a tradition for some clans and the organizers are very pleased that this appears to be the case. A highlight of the lunch time event is the draw for the toy chest. The sale of raffle tickets netted the club $1,300. It was handcrafted by Optimist Mike Dixon and professionally painted by Jorge Parejo, of Nahuel Painting. The club members donated a variety of toys to fill the chest. This year's chest was won by Carol McKay of Toronto. The breakfast is a chance for the club to say thank you to the community for their ongoing support of fundraising projects over the preceding year, but they couldn't run it successfully without the generosity of Bayfield Foodland, Brandon's Hardware, Bert Schilbe, Fairholme Dairy and Outdoor Projects. Optimists Reid Kinnear, John Pounder, and volunteer, Kevin Snell, satisfied a hungry crowd with an assortment of breakfast delights. Kevin Snell, of Bayfield, volunteered for kitchen duty during Breakfast with Santa. He helped scramble the 20 dozen eggs consumed. Hayden Hessel, of Bayfield, checked out the goodies to be found in Santa's sack. cc.villageofbayfield.com/Members/BayfieldBreeze/BayfieldBreezeWeek5l lssue24/tabid/269/Default.aspx 6/9 5/27/2019 Bayfield Breeze - Week 51 Issue 24 Bailie Dayman, 7, of Bayfield, attended the breakfast with her grandparents. I mean it is Dec. 16 and my Christmas tree is not up, I've barely started shopping and the ink is yet to dry on my Christmas cards; three very uncharacteristic traits in my ghosts of Christmases past. You'd think I'd be filled with worry and dread but I'm not. In fact, I may have started to feel a bit of the old spirit simmering below the surface on Sunday. It could hardly be helped as the day started with my annual participation in the Optimist Club of Bayfield's Breakfast with Santa and concluded by my giving a reading at the St. Andrew's United Church Christmas Candlelight Cantata. I am the official photographer at the breakfast, working alongside Santa, trying to capture a treasured keepsake of the event for parents and children. It is a lot of fun to see the children progress from the age of no cares, through to bashfulness and fear, and then on to cc.villageofbayfield.com/Members/BayfieldBreeze/BayfieldBreezeWeek5l1ssue24/tabid/269/Default.aspx 8/9 5/27/2019 Bayfield Breeze - Week 51 Issue 24 It was my very first Cantata, although it has been something I've wanted to attend for a long time, thanks to Rosemary Crosthwaite who invited me to offer a reading during the service — it was the perfect excuse to go!
