Our old friend, Mr. Thos. Abraham, has this week left at the Teems office a copy of the Paris Star of April 23rd, 1879. Mr. Abraham was a resident of Paris before coming to Wingham nearly forty years ago and 53 years ago he com- menced reading the Paris Star. The Star is a four page, eight column blank- et sheet. The paper contains a list of some 300 names of parties who went on a trip to Winnipeg, under the direction { of R. Patterson, the then Paris agent for the Great Western Railway. In the list we notice the names of former residents i of Lucknow, Dungannon, Clinton, Sea• forth, but tot one from Wingham. The people of Wingham must have then thought as much of their progressive town as they do now and were not anx- ious to leave for distant fields. The market report in this paper quotes wheat at 00 to 95; burley, 40 to 55; peas, 55 to 05; oats, 35 to 3C; eggs, 10 to 12; butter, 15 to 18; Potatoes, per bushel, 50 to 55. The paper has a number of columns of good reading matter and the advertising columns were well patronized by the merchants of Paris. The subscription price was $2 per year, or $1.50 if paid in advance, The people to -day get better weekly papers than they did in i8"r0 and are the ant's, What are you industrious their only cost $1 per year. about?
