double track extension of the Grand
Trunk line, where many workmen are
engaged, and the dynamite is used
for blasting.

from shock. At midnight he was

able hopes for his recovery. Ile is

In a pirehed battle at Wright's coal
works, Raleigh Comity, last night.

The light was between 100 deputy
malshals and deputy sheriffs, under
Chief Deputy Cunningham of Charles-
ton arid Sheriff Cook al' lintleigh
County, and 250 striking, miners,
who refused to permit, lederal offi-
cers to serve injunctinti metiers and
who set a railway trestle on fire.
The team met a, mob ermed with
rifles. The ct•owd defied arrest and
service papors, and finally opened fire
on the deputies. The bate le lasted
sevet.al minutee. Fiety-nine of the
