McGavin, formerly of Wingham, died at
his home its Elowiok on Tuesday. De-
ceased was one of the early pioneers
of Howick township.
—The G. T.R. has decided to continue
the afternoon train from here to Toronto,
via Palmerston for the winter mouths.
The travelling public witi be pleased to
learn of this decision.
—The annual Sous of Scotland concert
will be Iield on January 8th. This con-
cert is always well patronized and is
always one of the best of the season.
The one this year promises to he better
than previous concerts as first-class
artists have beeti engaged.
—Mr. W. 1. Grierson bagged a trice

to many Winghantites, recently pur-
chased a 100 -acre farm near Blenheim,
Kent county, psyiug $10.00;) for the
place. The farm is oue of the best in
Kent county, and has splendid buildings.
Mr. Clendenuing and wife are at present
visiting with his mother, who is seriously
ill.
—Mr. P. S 1t'isher,the obliging assist-
ant in the Wiugliam post office was tak-
en suddenly and seriously ill with ap-
pendicitis on. Wednesday morning of last
week. An operation was perforated
ou him on Friday evening last and we
are pleased to learn that he is now im-
proving. The many friends of this 1
young titan will wish lulu a speedy rt -
