McTCILL01'
On Sept. 17th, about SO guests
assembled at the beautiful homestead of
Dickson Bros., near Walton. The
occasion being the marriage of their
stewardess, Miss Alice D. McMann, who
has occupied the position for about S
years and a half. This of itself is a
good recommend, so Mr. Jun Shortreed
must have thought, when he asked her to
assume the charge of the inside depart- .
ulent of his establishment for a life
tenure. The weather was all that
could be desired. At the appal nted
hour, 10.30 a. m. the bride appeared in
a costume of nun's veiling, trimmed
with cream satin and applique, and
carrying a boquet of aster,. The bride
was given away by her brother; Miss
Carrie Shortreed playing the wedding
march, The bride and groom were un-
attended. Rev. M. G. Jerrow tied the
nuptial knot, assisted by the item
C. R. Carseallen. The congratti)ationa
being ovens, all sat clown to a ; ltO,1YituotiS
wedding dinner, provided by Dielcson
Bros. who don't do things by halves,
which was evidenced by the completness
of the arrangements in all their details.
Their spacious mansion was thrown open
to the guests, who wandered about at
their own sweet will. About 2 p.
the bride and groom, with a number of
their friends drove to Blyth, where they
entrained for London and other points
farther east. They were not allowed
to depart, ham ever, without the usual
accompanient of rice, a shower of old
slippers, and a peal from the wedding
bell. On Mr. and Mrs, Sbortreed return
they will try the stern realities of
housekeeping on a farm about 2 miles
front the village of Walton, in the town-
ship, of Morris, They are held in high
esteem in the community. Some ardent
admirer had ventured a 60 foot climb in
the moonlight and planted a flag on the
wind mill tower, in honor of the
occasion.
