"Some Cows from Glengarry."
Among the records collected by the
dairy division, Ottawa, this Reason are
sume from Glengarry that show the
average yield of 155 cows to be 4,540.
pounds of milk, 3 5 test, 159 pounds of
fat, included in that is the yield of
one herd of 9 cows Including one three-
year-old that averiaged 0,209 pounds of
milk, 3,3 test, 205 pounds of fat,
It will be noticed that this herd pro-
duced 1,009 pounds of milk and 40
pounds of fat above the average of'the
155 oowa. .Another herd averaged 220
pounds of fat, or 01 pounds per cow
above the average; with fat reckoned
at thirty cents per pound, this is equi-
valent to over eighteen dollars per cow,
indicative of the thogsande of dollars.
extra that might be coming into a dis-
trict if the cows were keyed up to a
higher level.
One noticeable feature of this section
is the large number of poor yields
from two and three year olds. But it
is not only the heifers that are respon-
sible far lowering the average yield.
There are cows from six to ten years
oli that gave only 2,8)0 of milk and
102 pounds of fat as compared with
th tt average of '4,540 pounds of milk
and 159 pounds of fat,
So that instead of a contrast of only
eighteen dollars, it is found that
there is an actual difference of over
forty one dollars in the cash received
from mature cows in the same period,
Tale is surely a statement strong
enough to cause every dairyman to ex-
amine closely into the performance of
each cow he keeps, Milk records are
easily kept and a composite sample
from each tenth day's milk can be test-
ed once a month. Is not this worth
doing ?

A Mixed Career.
Sir Rufus Isaacs, recently appointed
Lord Chief Justice of England, has
had a strangely mixed career. The son
of a London msrchant he began life as
a common sailor. Tiring of this he
became a broker, but made a failure
of it, Then he married and his wife
induced him to study law. He did to
a id from that on his progress was
rapid, and now he occupies the bights.
judicial position in England.

ARE YOU VERY BUSY ?
Every little while you rend in the jaspers
that so many persona have died from Con-
sumption,
It is all very far=off and matter of fact
and possibly it scarcely arrests your atten-
tion.
Do you ever realize that each one of
those ""cases" -mere items in an official
record -is a black tragedy to suinebody,
that behind each one of them lies long,
hopeless days of pain, feverish nights of
despair, lifetime plans that must be laid
away, grinding poverty, perhaps a wife to
fight her own way afterwards or children
who know hunger now that the father is
gone.
Just suppose it were your tragedy.
Suppose it were your father, your mother,
your brother, sister, husband, wife, your
child, or perhaps your sweetheart, and you
with the hospital doors shut in your face,
wringing your hands in utter helplessness
while the crowds hurry by, engrossed in
their own affairs.
But no! You are in that crowd and You
don't hear either because you aro busy.
But wouldn't you give -and gladly -if
you know that what meant so little to -you
would go fan.. to bring back the glow to
somebody's wan face or the laughter to
somebody's lips 2
Just sit down and think of the ono yon
love bust in the world. Then say " If 'she
lay there---" or "If ho lay there ---LI'
and see how it sounds. What would ho•
