A few weeks ago Lucknow had three
hotels, now she has only one. To -day,

Perfect harmony exists between the
Methodists and Presbyterians of Luck -
now. Last Sunday evening, the form-
er church was closed in order that
they might attend the anniversary
service that was being held in the lat-
ter. That's the kind of church union
which suits your humble servant.
In your editorial paragraphs of last
week you told us sir how a great
bank in France destroyed the bills
that were old, greasy and worn.
Wish they would send some over to
me. If after I was satisfied, there
were any to spare, do you know what
I would do ? In the first place
would buy the Cain House, thorough-
ly equip it, and make the town a
present of the satne, and then after-
wards buy the Electric Light plant,
giving it also to the town on condi-
tion, that it runs continuously night
and day, giving power for any in-
dustry that might need it, as well as
light to lighten our darkness. One
thing more and that would be, a fine
bell tower in the middle of the town
with a great Big Ben to ring out right
merrily, morning, noon and night, and
when this was accomplished and we
were able to accommodate all the
travelling public, give electric power
to any new enterprise, and a bell that
would tell the people when to go forth
and when to come home again, then
would we worry the C. P. R. so badly
that it would quickly build a branch
line, say from Wingbam via Lucknow
to Goderich. Western Canada is
great ; let us also try and develope
Western Ontario.

was the dedication of a beautiful
Memorial window,* the gift of Mr.
James Barr, in memory of his mother.
The window is a beautiful work of

weeping at the empty tomb and the
risen Christ standing in the back
ground, The sermon was in keeping
with the dedication service, the text
being taken from St. John 20:1314.
It will be a long time before the ser-

THE EARLY WORM
i
i
The early bird catches the worm ; that
fact
Has been into every young cranium
pack'd ;
It's really absurd
The talk that is heard
Of the wonderful thrift of that
wonderful bird.
But not the least mention is made of
the worrn
That equally early set out on a
squirm.
Except that within that most provi-
dent bird
The poor little fellow
terred.
It seems there's a word
to be said,
For had he but snugly retrained in
his bed,
And taken a nap,
Or curled up in the lap
Of Mother Earth sleeping, the
poor little chap
Would doubtless have lived to Methu-
selah's age,
And another tale figured on his-
tory's page.
Now why did they never instruct us
at school
That the worm was eaten for being
a'fool ?
