EDITORAL NOTES.
Vote for Kerr, the Liberal candidate
in North Huron.
Help strengthen the Opposition in
the Legislature by voting for W. H.
Kerr.
W. H. Kerr will make a good repre-
sentative for North Huron, Vote for
him on the llth of December.
Sitting snugly in his office in the
Parliament buildings, Sir James Whit-
ney may think a campaign in Novem-
ber quite the proper thing, but the
party workers who have to travel
through disagreeable weather have a
somewhat different view.
It is worth noting that in seven
years the Whitney Government has
utterly failed to disclose any act of
maladministration on the part of the
former Liberal Government. "Just
Iet us in," they said in 1905, "and we
will go through the records and show
up the wicked things the Grits hare
been doing in the last thirty rears."
They got in, they have the records, but
not a single scandal have they dis-
covered, Some of the old Liberal Gov-
ernment's supporters cut things loose
at election times; but the Government
itself was straight.—Goderich Signal.
THE LIBERAL PLATFORM.
N. W. Rowell, the new Liberal lead=
eer, has laid down a platform upon
which all progressive men may stand,
no matter what party they have fol-
lowed hitherto. The principal planks
are:
Publie ownership and operation of
public utilities, including telephenes
and water powers.
The creation of a department of im-
migration and colonization to promote
the settlement and development of

THE LIBERAL CANDIDATE.
The Seaforth Expositor in referring
to Mr. W. H. Kerr, the Liberal eandi-
date in North Huron says: —Mr. Kerr
and Mr, Musgrove will make a strong
team, but we have no hesitation in
saying that both politically and person-
ally kir. Kerr is the better man of the
tyro. Aside from his natural ability as
a speaker and his personal qualities,
his long municipal experience eminent-
ly qualifies him for a useful member of
the Ontario Legislature. He is a man!
built a good deal after the pattern of
the new Liberalleader. Notwithstand-
ing the fact, therefore, that North
Huron has been gerrrymandered in the
Conservative interests, if the lovers of
good and progressive Government
rally around Mr. Kerr and work for
him as they should do there are very
good prospects for his election.
The Goderich Signal says:—The Libe-
rals of North Huron have nominated
Mr. W, H, Kerr, proprietor of The
Brussels Post, as their candidate for
the Legislature. It is a good selection.
Mr. Kerr has worked hard in the in-
terests of the public in various capaci-
ties for many years, and has well earn-
ed the honor of a seat in parliament.
He is a man of progressive tendencies
and will be an able exponent ,of the
Liberal policies.
There is another reason why he
should receive the suffrages of the peo-
ple of North Huron. It will be remem-
bered that before the redistribution of
the Huron seats by the Whitney Gov-
ernment, Mr. Kerr was named as the
Liberal candidate for East Huron,
Mr. Proudfoot was the nominee for
West Huron. The Whitney Govern-
ment carved the constituencies in limb
way as to plate the two candidates in
ne riding (Centre Huron), and Mr.
roudfoat being selected for the new
onstituency Mr. Kerr stepped aside,
the victim of a most unjustifiable gerry
ander. But for that gerrymander it
altogether likely that Mr. Kerr, aid
ot Mr. Musgrove, would have sat in
he Legislature during the term that is
osing. Mr. Kerr, therefore, should
ot suffer in his candidature in North
uron because he is not a resident of
e riding. On the contrary, he should
ave the active support of every inde-
ndent voter in the constituency as a
buke to the tattles by which he Was
1908 den ^out of an opportunity of
presenting his fellow -electors in the
gislature.
Mr. Kerr is well known and highly
teemed in the eastern portion of the
ing of North Huron. The western
rtion also should rally strongly to his
e with the staunch support which
e Liberals of Ashfield and the Wawa-
she
s are
capable of giving.
The
Liberals North Huron are to
congratulated upon having so worthy
andidate, and if he secures the sup-.
t which he deserves the riding will
fortunate in having hire as its re-
sentative.

Perhaps Sir ,fames Whitney is the
nearest approach to a genuine example
of old-fashioned Toryism to be found in
the whole country to -day. In saying
this there is no desire to reflect in any
way either upon his character or abil-
ity as a party leader. Onto accept Mr...
