been appointed organist of the Central
Methodist Church at Stratford, to suc-
ceed Mr. L. R. Bridgnou who goes to
Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Cburch,
Vancouver.
-Nearly one million dollars was lost
in London's big fire Friday morning.

largest retail houses in the city, were
completely wiped out, while five other
stores were damaged to a great extent,
-A team of horses belonging to Mr.
D. Breckenridge, o Turnberry made
things lively near the G. T. R. crossing
on Saturday afternoon last when they
became frightened at an engine and run
away. The tongue of the wagon was
"broken and one horse slightly injured.
Thetas Lockhart, of Souris,
Man., who, with her husdand, went re-
cently to Hespeler to spend the winter
with their son, Dr. R. J. Loe.khart,
died suddenly on Thursday afternoon of
heart failure. The deceased lady was
a sister -in -lave of Mr, Robt. Lockhart,
of Wingham and Mr. Lockhart attend-
ed the funeral at Hespeler.

Rev. E. H. Croly was in London this
week attending a Missionary Conven-
tion.
Mr. Joseph Gibson has returned home
from the Wet where he spent several
weeks,

home after speryding the past few
weeks in the West:
Mrs. H. Hamilton is spending a few
days at the home of .her son, Mr. H.
Hamilton at Oshawa.
Mr, Sidney Bond returned to Toronto
aftvr spending the holidays with his
sister, Mrs. Errold Drummond.
Mr. Wm. Elliott, of Turnberry left
this week for Sault Ste Marie to spend
a few weeks with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jas. Elliott.
Mr. Fred McPhail, Tiverton, and Mr.
Merton Andison, Gerrie, who are at-
tending the Wingham Business College
spent Sunday at their respective homes.
Mr. Lewis Murray, vile graduated
from the W. B. C. last week, has gone
to his home in Lucknow for a short
vacation before accepting a position,
Messrs. J. B. Farrell, Tiverton; A.
B. McKay, Tiverton, and W. )3. Mc-
Cormick, Kincardine were enrolled in
the Commercial Department of the
Wingham Business College last week.
Mr. Lou. Sadler who has been on the,
staff of the Bank of Commerce for
some time has been 'transferred to the
Dresden branch. His many friends
will be sorry to hear of his removal
from town.
Mr. Mitchell, of North Dakota, who
worked with his brother the late J. T.
Mitchol, of the 'tic/Ingham Vidette, and
is also formerly of the Tates staff,
was catling on old friends in Wingham
last week, Mr. Mitchell left here over
25 years ago and this was his first visit
to the town, He was not able to
find many of the older residents,

Auction Sale of Cows.
Mr. J. E. Ferguson, of Ingersoll,
will hold an auction sale of dairy cows
at the National hotel on Thursday,
November 16th, at 2 o'clock. This will
be one of the best tot of cows ever
brought into Wingliatri. John Purvis
will be the auctioneer.
Thomas Cooper was fined 250 and sent
to jail for six months by Judge Dowling
of Chotharti for personation at the Dom-
inion election.
The flying post special train struck
Mr, Frederick Bell's wagon at Burling-
ton. Both horses were killed and Mr.
Bell's legs broken.
