Orson, a town in Sweden, is probably the only municipality in the world which has ordinary city expenses, but which imposes no taxes. Moreover, the looal railway is free to every citizen. and there is no charge for telephone ser- vice, sohools, libraries and the like. This happy state of affairs is due to the wisdom of a former generation of aid- zens and rulers of Orson, wbo planted trees on all available ground. During the last thirty years the town authori- ties have sold no less than 0,000,000 worth of young trees and timber, and judicious replantings have provided for a similar income in the' fature.-Chi. sago Tribune. -Reports from the Niagara Penin. sola say that the peach crop will be a good one this year. -Dr. Andrew Smith, for many years head of the Ontario Veterinary College at Toronto, is dead. -East Wawanosh Township Council will meet in the Foresters' hall at Bel - grave next Mdnday. -The Howiok Telephone Company, Limited, of Gorrie, capital $7,000, has been granted a charter. -In the free.for.all peeing race at Cleveland on Saturday, Darky Hal, owned by 3. Understands Advertising. A lady wbo understands advertising, says: -"No lady wishes to be looked upon as a shopping fiend; she does not care to go into a store and have a mer• chant show all his stook in order to find out whether he keeps what she wishes to purchase, and whether the article is sold at a price she can afford. It is much easier and more pleasant to look .through the advertisements of a news. paper than it is to bore the clerks and waste ber own time, Next to the local items the advertisement in a paper, stat- ing articles for sale and the prices, are most interesting. Such advertising will keep =oh money that goes to the larg- er cities at home." Advertisements in the TIMES are always, made so attractive that they form one of the interesting parts of this great faintly journal. --Mr. W. H. Davidson has purchased Mr. W. J.
