NOTES AND COMMENTS
Charles Lynch fell oat of a window
at the Crawford House, Windsor, and
was killed.
The Wright biplane made the beat
showing at Montreal aviation meeting,
both in speed and height flights. Young
Dixon fell out of his car, and his balloon
went up until it burst. Many people
thought he was still in the oar..

the Canadian Bank of Commerce, and

Ottawa Improvement Commission.
As a result of a quiet but searching
inveatieation into the affairs of the Gov-
ernment printing bureau, which Hon,.
Charles Murphy, secretary of state, has
been oonduoting for some months past,
a cleverly arranged system of fraud and
rake off in the purchase of supplies, ex-
tending over many years has been un-
earthed. For alleged complicity in
these frauds F. S. Goldthrite, who for
twenty years has been superintendent of
stationery at the bureau, is wanted by
the Dominion police, So tar one official
and four employees have been dismissed,
and one official suspended. Anything
in the shape of graft should be looked
after sharply and the guilty parties put
where they will not have a chance to
do wrong.
What mast have been the feelings of
the three convicts who rode down from
Toronto this week to enter the Ports-

beautiful one—the sun brilliant in a
glorious sky, the waters of the lake

miles upon miles fairly alive and spark-
ling; the earth green, fresh and fruitful;
and everywhere lite and energy and
happiness. To those homeward bound

But to those three stricken souls going,

Some Contrasts In Milk Yields.
Some records are always stimulating.
Some of the records from members al
the cow testing associations for May
are indicative of good cows well kept
and well fed, in a word, deoidediy pro-
fitable °owe. For inatanoe, one dairy-
man
airyman in western. Ontario owning a herd
of 62 cows has the inspiring record of
1127 lbs, of milk per cow, during the
month, Again, in six associations in
Peterboro and Oxford counties the aver-
age yield of 380 cows was 1055 lbs, of
milk and 34.8 Lbs. fat.
The reverse of the picture is not so
rosy, indicating the need of more and
better cows. Several associations have
an average of ender 700 lbs. of milk and
26 lbs. fat. A group of 75 cows at one
creamery gave only 604 lbs. of milk and
21.8 lbs. fat in May. Think of the dif•
ferenoe,the average yield noted above
is seventy per cent better.
As an instance of what Is being done
by the selected animal, the record of
one of the most famous cows to -day
farms a wonderful contrast. She is
credited with 120 Ibs. fat in thirty days.
This now, it is said, was picked up from
a neighbor who did not keep records
and therefore was unaware of the phe-
nomenal value. Wbo will be the next
man to disoover another such diamond
in the rongh? Individual cow records
alone can show where such jewels exist.
THE ROOT OF THE EVIL
Some people very grievously mis-
quote Scripture when they say that it is
declared therein that "Money is the root
of all evil." The correct quotation is
"The love of money it; the root of all
evil," There is an evil existing in
Great Britain no the form of land mon-
opoly which the present Government
there is seeking to alleviate by oompell-
ing the sand -lords to pay taxes on the
unearned increment, It is interesting
to note what the bishop of the Anglican
Diooeae of Ontario said in his annual
address to the Synod on the land mon-
opoly question. This is it:
'That the Lords should hold one-fifth
of the land area of the United Kingdom,
or nearly 17,000,000 sores, which neither
they nor their forefathers ever 'machete -
ed, or even earned, and for which they
paid no taxes and refused to pay, was a
condition that might wet' oauee, 88 11

a remedy, This state of things was
largely responsible for the degeneracy
and slum life of the cities of England.

ANAEMIA'S VICTIMS
Can Find New Health in Dr. Wil-
liams' Pink Pills.
Anaemiais simply a leek of blood,
It therefore follows that the (=taut
treatment for anaemia 15 one that in.
greases the blood supply. That is really
the only treatment that pan possibly be
successful, The syrnpton}s of anaemia
are easily recognized, Paleness, listless-
nees, the failure to noorisb, beadaphea
and often in women and girls back-
aches, faintness and palpitation of the
heart. To restore the blood supply to
its normal quantity and qual'ta', Dr,
Williams' Pink PIIIe oan be reoornoend-
ed with gonfidenoe. First because they
are known to have oared thousands of
anaemic people—the highest possible
reapmmeridatioa. Secondly they ao-
taally contain the ingredients that com-
bine with the food and oxygen to
make rich, red blood, without which no
man, woman or growing boy or girl can
be healthy.
Mrs, E lit. Bell, Red Deer, Alta„

years ago, a young girl, I had • de snf.

left Ontario, I could not walk upataire,
walk on the street, or stand in a room
for a few minutes without fainting,
Life was a burden and I did nut pare
whether I lived or not, and had given up
hope of getting better. It was at this
time Dr. Williams' Pink Pills were
brought to my attention, and a supply
was got far me. After I had used the
second box I thought I felt some better.
and I continued taking the Pills until I
had used nine or ten boxes, when I felt
like a new person. I oould walk, ride a
bicycle and skate without the dreadful
pains in my limbs I had before experi-
enced, and in every way I was enjoying
better health than ever before in my
life, Now, whenever I feel the need of
a tonic I tarn at once to Dr. Williams'

niending them to my friends,"
