has a hero instead of a heroine. Jos. F.
Kiein of that village had a hen that
brought out eiglitohiokens, but the hen
died and left them motherless. But in
this day of woman's suffrage and
women's clubs the men are compelled
to do some of the household duties. So
it comes about that the rooster, trained
in honeehold work; was equal to the

HOW HE WON.
It wasn't by paneing to play,
It wasn't by stopping to :est,
By idling his moments away,
By eteadily doing his best,
It wasn't by kookiog his neighbor
Or whining: "The world is unfair"
But by honest and diligent labor
He finally landed up there.
It wasn't by sneering at othere
By meddling in others' affair•+,
And daily belittling his brothers,
And daily enlarging his parse,
Nor was it by ceaseless complaining
That the world inn't run on the square ;
But by never a duty disdaining
He finally landed up there. •
Not by saying the men who' employed
him
Knew lees of their business than he
Or by growling when trifles annoy him
And afraid that the world wouldn't
See,
If he didn't go boasting and bragging
That he often did more than his share,
But by plugging right on without lag-
ging,
He finally landed np there.

died and left them motherless. But in
this day of woman's suffrage and
women's clubs the men are compelled
to do some of the household duties. So
it comes about that the rooster, trained

It wasn't by paneing to play,
It wasn't by stopping to :est,
By idling his moments away,
By eteadily doing his best,
It wasn't by kookiog his neighbor
Or whining: "The world is unfair"
But by honest and diligent labor
He finally landed up there.
It wasn't by sneering at othere
By meddling in others' affair•+,
And daily belittling his brothers,
And daily enlarging his parse,
Nor was it by ceaseless complaining
That the world inn't run on the square ;
But by never a duty disdaining
He finally landed up there. •
Not by saying the men who' employed
him
Knew lees of their business than he
Or by growling when trifles annoy him
And afraid that the world wouldn't
See,
If he didn't go boasting and bragging
That he often did more than his share,
But by plugging right on without lag-

He finally landed np there.
