R. HowsoN, Wingham,
Oa Wednesday, May llth, the cone -
natality was caused to mourn the lose of
one of its respected citizens, in the per.
son of Alexander MacKenzie. The de-
ceased had always lived on the old home-
stead till about three years ago, when he
was compelled to retire from active
work on account of ill -health. Every
effort was put forth for reoovery, and it
was thought by himself and his friends
that be was gradually regaining hie
usual health, until a few days prior to
his death, when increased troubles set
in. He was taken to the Alexandra hos,
pital in Goderioh, bat in spite of all
medical attendance the hand of death
could not be stayed. The deceased was
but in the prime of life, being in his
forty-fifth year. He leaves to mourn
his loss one sister, Mrs. Peter Clark, of
St. Helens; and five brothers—John,
Charles and Murdooh, of Ashfield; Rode-
rick, in Manitoba, and Rev. Donald
MacKenzie in British Columbia.

Rachel Mitchell, Mrs. James B. Hunt•
er, passed away on Sunday morning,
15th inst , after a ported of ill health
which, until the last moment, indicated
no such sudden taking off as then befell
its victim. For some time Mrs. Hunter
had been unwell, but able to move
about; and news of her death came ae a
great surprise those who heard it. She
was in her 63rd year.
Death came with startling sudden-
ness to Apley Matheson on Tuesday
evening, 17th inst. He had walked over
to his brother's house, feeling unusually
well about 9 o'clock. While there he
was stroken suddenly with hemorrhage,
which resulted in death within a very
short interval- The funeral took place
at 3 p. m. on Saturday, to Kinloss
