Mr. Walter Rose, of Teeswater, was calling on Wingham friends on Wednes- day. -.Messrs. Henderson and Johnston shipped a carload of hogs to Stratford an Wednesday. -Attend the meeting of the Board of Trade in the Council Chamber next Monday evening. -Minutes of last meeting of Maitland, :Presbytery will be found on another page of this ismb. -The regular meeting of Court Mait- land, Canadian Order of Foresters' will be held on Friday evening of this week. McGrogan, of Belmore, died at her dome in Detroit on Sunday last. -The sleighing is done for this sea- son. Wheeled rigs were brought into use last Saturday for the first this spring. - Russell Moffatt, of Wroxeter, well known to many of our readers, has taken a position in the Merchants' Bank at Winnipeg. - Wingham millinery stores are now replete with the latest spring styles of ladies' headwear. The openings are being held this week. -Tom McLean, a cattle dealer, well known in this locality as "Big Tom" died recently in Bnffalc. The remains were taken to Lacknow for interment. --Mr.A.E. Louttit has been in the hos- pital for some days and an operation was performed on Friday last. Mr. Louttit's many friends hope to soon see bim able to be around again, -Mr. W. H, Rintoul, contractor, of this town, was on Monday awarded the contract of building a new manse in connection with the Presbyterian Church at St. Helens. -The commercial travellers of Lon- don are asking the G. T. R. authorities to have the morning train on the L. I3. 8& B. branch leave London at 6 30 in place of 8 30 o'clock, -Mr. and Mra. W. N. Hutchison, and family of Indian Head, Seek , are taking up their residence in Wingham, Mr. Hutchison is a brother of our towns- man, Mr. R. A. Hutchison. ---Mount Forest hockey club wine the championship of the Northern League for this season. In the return game played last week the Durham players lost to Mount Forest by a snore of 10 to 4. -Mr. John S. Pringle and family left yesterday for their new home in the West and will locate near Saskatoon. Mr. Pringle took out two car loads of settler's effects. He will have the best wishes of many friends. -The Irish social held in the leoture room, of St. Andrew's Church on Thurs. day evening last was largely attended. There was a good program and refresh. ments were serves. All present report a very pleasant evening, -The Standard Loan Company of Toronto has disposed of its business at Goderioh to the Union Bank, which has not had a branch in Goderich, The Standard Loan cffioo is being fitted up for the bank, and W. L Horton, who hue been manager of the Standard Loan office, as well as its predecessor, the Huron & Brno, will be manager of the new bank. It is anderatood that the C. P. R. in• tends establiehing an independent sta. tion in Toronto, and property for this purpose has been obtained near the jam - tion of Yonge and Oarlton Streets. Corbett were sum• mooed to Simcoe on Monday, owing to the death of Mr. Corbett's mother and Mrs. Oorbett's grandfather. Mr. F. Buchanan attended the bi- snnna! meeting of the Supreme Council of the Royal Tempters of Temperance et Hamilton last week and was again tleoted as Dominion Past Councillor. Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Thomson and ion, late of Belmore, left here on Mon• lay for Southampton, where Mr. Thom - ion is engaging in the mercantile busi less.
