PRESBYTERY OF MAITLAND. The Presbytery met at Wingham on let March, with Mr. Tait presiding. Mr. Bremner reported that Pine River and the Kinlongh charge would hence- forth be self sustaining. Mr. West and Inspeotor Chieholm were appointed members of the Synod's Committee on Bills and Overtures, and Mr. McLean was appointed member of Assembly's Committee on • Bills and Overtures. Mr. Tait presented report on Church Life and Work. Mr. Wishart reported that arrangements bad been made with Mr. Lundy to give regular service to Monorief Congregation. A committee was appointed to proceed with the orga- nization of Moncrief into a regular con- gregation. Rev's Ferguson, Perrin, Mc- Lean and West and Messrs. Martin, Jas. Henderson, Campbell and Rutherford were appointed Oomission to the General Assembly whioh meets at Halifax in June. Mr. MoKerroli' presented the reports on Systematic Giving and Moral and So- cial Reform, and Mr. Wishart that on Sabbath Schools. Mr. Ferguson gave the report on young People's Societies. All these re- ports showed progress. •Mr, Tait presented an offer from ap office bearer of Teeswater congregation offering one half the support for at least three years of a Medical Missionary in the Soudan. The offer was gratefully received and forwarded to the F. M. Committee of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Rutherford was appointed Convener of OommitteeonSystematio Beneficence and Mr. MoEaohern on Moral and Social Reform. Mr. Bremner was elected mo- derator for the ensuing six months. The Induction of Hardie Rev. J. S. Ha e took place at Ashfield on March 2nd. Mr. MoKerroll presided as moderator. Mr. McLean conductedDivines r f e v oe. Mr. MoLennan addressedtheminister and Mr.. MoKerroll : the congregation. Ashfield was vacant only a little over a month and is now happily settled with Mr. Hardie at the helm. Meissonler once got acquainted with a Parisian grandee, very wealthy, very fond of posing as an art patron, but slightly penurious. One clay Meisso- nier, breakfasting with the grandee, was struck by the beauty of the tex- ture of the tablecloth. "One could draw upon it," be remarked, and, suit- ing the action to the word, he produced a pencil and made on the smooth, snowy nap a wonderfully able sketch of a man's head. The particular table- cloth in question never went to tithe wash. The "economical swell" had the head carefully cut out of the dam- ask and hastened to frame and glaze his prize. The firm of Watt & Little, of the Wingham planing mill has been dis- solved, Mr. John Watt, the senior mem- ber of the firm, will continue the busi- ness. Mr Alex. Ross, stationer, bas been appointed agent of the Canadian Pacific Telegraph and Dominion Express Com- panies, and the offices were removed to his bookstore last week. Mr. R. C. Sperling shipped two oar loads of wheat to Montreal, for export, on Tuesday, per Canadian Paoifio Rail- way. Work on the bridge at Messrs. Hut- ton & Carr's mill his been stopped for nearly a week.. The bridge is to be corn• pleted by the 10th proximo. Mr. Robt. D. Young, who has been for a number of yeare in Mr. John Hanna's store, .leaves this week for Hensall, where he intends embarking in the mercantile business. Messrs. Reid Bros., of Goderich, have leased the empty store opposite the Brunswick House, and intend opening out a stook of gent's furnishings in a few days.
