Alas! how easily things go wrong!
A sigh too much or a kine too long,
And there follows a mist and a weeping
rain,
And lite is never the same again.
Alas! how hardly things go right!
'Tis hard to watch on a summer's night,
For the sigh will come and the kiss will
stay,
And the summer night is a winter day.
And yet how easily things go right!

A STORY OF MEISSONIER.
The Painter's Two Breakfasts With a
Stingy Art Patron.
Meissonler once got acquainted with
a Parisian grandee, very wealthy, very
fond of posing as an art patron, but
slightly penurious. One clay Meisso-
nier, breakfasting with the grandee,
was struck by the beauty of the tex-
ture of the tablecloth. "One could
draw upon it," be remarked, and, suit-
ing the action to the word, he produced
a pencil and made on the smooth,
snowy nap a wonderfully able sketch
of a man's head. The particular table-
cloth in question never went to tithe
wash. The "economical swell" had
the head carefully cut out of the dam-
ask and hastened to frame and glaze
his prize. A few weeks afterward
Meissonier again breakfasted with tris
Patron and found by the side of his
plate at the corner of the table assign-
ed to him a neat little sheaf of crayons
and holders, with a penknife and some
India tubber.
While the guests, at the conclusion

" FRUIT4A-TIVES" Cured Him
SYDNEY MINES, N. S., JANUARY 25;fH 1910
"For many years I suffered torture from Indigestion and Dyspepsia. Two
years ago, I was so bad that I vomited my food constantly. The agony I endured
all these years, I cannot describe and I lost over 25 pounds in weight. I also
suffered with Constipation which made the stomach trouble worse. I consulted
physicians, as I was afraid the disease was cancer but medicine gave only
temporary relief and then the disease was as bad as ever.
I read in the "Maritime Baptist" about "fruit-a-tives" and the cures this
medicine was making and I decided to try it. After taking three boxes, I found
a great change for the better and now I can say "Fruit -a -fives" has entirelycure'
