FACTS ABOUT CANADA.
Canada is Larger than the United
States by about 178,000 square mites,
and has a population of only one -
twelfth the latter country.
Canada is as large as thirty United
Kingdoms of Great Britain, and equal
in size to eighteen Germanys.
Canada is almost as large as Eur-
ope, and twice the size of British India,
e'ghteen times the size of France,:
twenty times the size of Spain, and
thirty-three times the size of Italy.
Canada is one-third the area of the
Brttieh Empire, and half of this area
is not yet surveyed into Provinces.
Only one quarter of this vast area is
occupied, and less than one-eighth is
under cultivation.
Canada contains approximately 3,-
729,665 square miles -more than one-
third of this territory is at present un-
explored.
The unsnrveyed districts of MacKen-
zie, Ungava and Franklin are larger
than China.
The distance from Halifax to Van-
couver is greater than from London,
England, to Halifax.

While still a boy Thomas Hood went
to Scotland for a holiday trip and
stayed with his aunt, who was a rigid
Sabbatarian. He describes bow upon

Toronto, Jan. 11. -City Cattle Mar-
ket -There was a snap to trade to -day,
owing to the light ran. The demand at
the present time is ahead of the supply,
and as a result many loads of cattle are
coming in in an unfinished oonditior.
Some of those should have been in their
stables for the next few weeks, by whioh.
time they would make top prides. As
it 1s, anything like well -finished cattle
are selling- strong at $5.25 to $8.75, .a
bunch of nine cattle weighing less than
1 000 lbs., belling to -day at the latter
figure.
There was each a keen demand for
butcher cattle that nothing was left for
the export trade, though there was some
inquiry for the latter, some cows selling
for export at $2 25. Good bntoh er cows
sold firm at $4 50.
The ran was 66 loads, with 1,257 head
of cattle, 400 sheep and lambs, 50 hogs
and 53 calves.
