COUNTY COUNCIL, NOTES.
Huron County Connell met in Brus-
sels last week, The Post gives the
following lleit'sy "postscripts" on the
session :-
The County Council when it met in
Brussels 10 years ago was composed
of 51 members, with Warden Ratz in
the chair, Co. Councillors were as
follows es -Messrs. Griffin, MoMurchie,
Struthers, Kelly, Rogers, A. MoMur-
chie; Corbett, Black, Rollins, Bisset,
Johnston, Cameron, Elliott, Beacom,
Strachan, Oliver, Bryans, Rennie,
Kalbfleisch, Keine, Cook, Jacques,
McMillan, Britton, Hays, Manly,
Wray, Howe, Wilson, Beattie, Tor-
rance; Campbell, Rate, Eiber, Black,
McPherson, Walker, Smillie, Kay,
Harney, Currie, Anderson, Garvin,
Durnion, Clegg, Scott and Anderson.
No less than 12 of the above have
passed away from time. The only
present member who was in the Co.
Council in 1886 is Edward Bryans,
who is one of the representatives of
the Division comprised by Grey, Mor-
ris and Brussels. Mr. Bryans has not
been in the Council continuously,
however. Brussels locality has four
ex -Wardens, viz.:-Jno. Leckie, Thos.
Strachan, W. H. Kerr and Jas. Bow-
man, respectively A complimen-
tary Banquet was tendered the Coun-
ty Council on Thursday of this week
at the American hotel Who will
be 'Vatden next year ? According to
the rule established it will go to a
member adhering to the Conservative
faith and among the most likely as-
pirants is the genial Hugh Spackman
of Exeter, and happy "Bob'.' McLean,
of the town of Goderich. It is said
Warden Miller might be eligible for
another term if he'd promise to change
his politics hut even the allurements
of the chief chair will hardly be suffi-
cient to divert him from the ways of
his youth. Spackman is the likely
man Clerk Lane is the best story
teller --we don't mean "flbs"-in con-
nection with the Council. T. E. Hays
of Seaforth, used to head the list and
Councillor Lamont is not a bad second
but Mr. Lane looks so very serious
over itEverybody loves Dr. Holmes
and special attachment is evidenced at
the close of the last session....The re-
port of the Co. Valuators was pre-
sented to -day (Thursday). A printed
report will be mailed to each of the
county newspapers this week....There
were 91 inrnates in the House of Re-
fuge on December lst, 57 males and 34
females. There were 15 deaths during
the year There were five bridges
built this year iii the county besides
the abutments at Bayfield for a new
bridge 280 feet long to be put up next
year Co. Councillor Grieve was
bothered with an attack of lumbago.
....A McKillop delegation appeared
before the Council on Wednesday af-
ternoon and argued out their ease con-
cerning Co. boundary bridges.

day evening and appointed a commit-
tee to arrange a series of socials to be
held during the winter.
Mr. his. Young has taken the job of
filling around the west pier of the
bridge, and had three teams and
several men at work for a few days.
On Sunday last Rev. W. H. Hartley.
began holding service in St. Mark's
church. Auburn services therefore
will be held here every other Sunday
morning at 10.30.
The village has a question before it
which it has been unable to solve so
far. Since harvest wheat has been
lower in price, flour is cheaper, bit
bread so far has not been taking in
the situation. Bakers have never
heard of the reduction in the previous
two commodities.
The executive committee are ar-
ranging to hold the annual Sunday
School convention on January 17th.
The meeting will be held in Knox
church. Rev. J. C. Robertson, B. D.,
of Toronto. general secretary of the
Presbyterian Sabbath schools of Ca-
nada, has been secured.

Clinton.
The staff at the Organ factory are
working overtime, endeavoring to
turn out 100 organs a week.
The cement walks built during the
past season cost ten cents per foot;
38,530 square feet were laid during the
past summer.
The dry earth closet bylaw was
given the third reading in the Town
Council, after much discussion, at
their last meeting.
Mr. Foster, District Passenger
Agent, was in town last week, and
said that the C. P. R. would be run-
ning into Clinton in 1907.
Mr. Kidd, of Seaforth, inspector of
food under the Dominion Government
was in town on Monday, securing
samples of groceries, for government
analysis.
Mr. D. Cantelon .has closed the sea-
son, so far as his operations are con-
cerned, for the packing and shipping
of apples. He will have sent out 20,-
000 barrels, which were bought as fol-
lows: -Huron 4,034, Sintcoe 4,753, Hal-
ton 5,269, Waterloo 3,314, Perth 954,
Middlesex 526. 13,000 barrels have
gone to the Northwest, 10,000 being
winter stock. Only about 1,000 of the
total output yet remains in cold stor-
age.

Rev. Mr. Howson of Mitchell
preached anniversary sermons here
on Sunday, 10th inst.
Miss Welch, who has been teaching
in S. S. No. 3, Culross, is giving up
her school at the end of the year, and
Mr. Linklater, of Turnberry, hes
engaged for the year 1906.
Miss Clarinda Watson, youngest
daughter of Mr. Wm. Watson of
town, died Wednesday afternoon,
Site had but recently arrived home
from the west, where she had gone
into a decline. She was 29 years and
4 months old.
W. H. Green and a gang of men are
at work putting in the new engine
and boiler at the electric' light power
house. The work will be completed in
the course of a few days after which
we shall expect the lights to quit play-
ing hide and seek and get down to
business.
Mr. Thos. Friendship, who for some
time has been carrying on a grocery
business in the Hutton Block, has
made an assignment to John Farqu-
harson for the benefit of his creditors,
There will be a meeting of Ms credi-
tors at Mr. Farquharson's office on
the 15th.
Near twelve o'clock Sunday night
David A. Ireland, of the 3rd con., Cul-
ross, passed away, after near'ly n
year's illness. He was afflicted with
heart trouble and for some time the
end was daily looked for. Deceased
was one of the early settlers of the
township and hacl reached the age of
76 years and 7 months,

Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Johnston, sr.,
have taken up their residence in
Blyth.
Mr. 5. McClinton, who has been
the efficient fax collector for some
years, has almost completed his 'work
for this year.
ML, Robert 1\teDowell has leased his
farm on the Oth litre to Me. Dow, Mr.
McDowell and son, Marvin, expect to
