19Q1 is the drat leap year since 11994.
The long interval was the result of
the practice of dropping lea p year at
the end of a century in order that the
procession of time may be accurately
registered. Of course, the privileges
of a year in which February has twen-
ty-nine days are not forgotten,and
innurnerable ancient jokes will be
resurrected.
Last week, the Wingham Times
entered its thirty-third year, For
nearly seven years, the present pro-

Predictions of an early spring are
bung made. An old Essex trapper who
has been up the shore along St. Clair
fiats and away north among the great
lakes, taking his cue from the musk-
rat, the beaver and other animals in
the construction of their winter
houses, says—"Surely the robins will
carol in record time in the spring of

frost will rise and evaporate and the
flowers bloom; again at a surprisingly
early date.".

Hockey Match.
A lively League match was played
on the rink hero on Monday evening
between Harriston and Wingham
Hockey teams. The Harriston • boys
are not only swift, but play good com-
bination. Nevertheless, the Wingham
boys held their own well. At half
time the score was 2-3 in favor of
Wingham, and when the time was up,
the snore was a tie. Play was then
continued five minutes each way, and
the game ended $ to 9 in favor of the
visitors, Wingham will play the re•

Clinton vs. Wingham.
Wingham Hockey team visited
Clinton on Thursday last to play the
team of that town, and were defeated
by a score of 10 to'8. This is what our
reporter has to say -"Both teams were
playing good hockey in first half, and
Wingham bad a lead of 3 goals to 2,.
but in the second half it. looked as if
Clinton had imported a lot of bush-
whackers from the - north, and the

came in for hard slugging. To make
matters worse, the game was played
without goal nets, and nearly every-
thing that hit the end of the rink
where Wingham was defending, was
counted a goal by Clinton umpires.
Now if Clinton would come out of the
bush, get goal nets, and anything like
a fair goal umpire, our boys would like
