J. A. MeLEAN. Is The Well Clean ? Out of seventy-nine Minnesota farm wells, examined by experts of the United States Department of Agricul- ture, fifty-nine were found to be pol- luted. Twenty-three out of the fifty- nine farms on which there were foul wells had arecord of typhoid fever. Coincident with this statement comes a report of low water in wells in vari- ous parts of Ontario. "Low water" in the well is a danger signal. Sources of supply that are moderately safe under normal conditions become ex- ceedingly dangerous when the supply is short, and every draft upon it stirs up the germs of loathsome disease that may be lurking in the bottom. Whenever these conditions exist it is never safe to use the water for drink- ing without first boiling it. Zam•Buk Ends Years Of Pain ! Powerful Proofs of its Healing Value. They Ask Mech. Cobalt oilicIals allowed their town to get into a. most unsanitary state, inviting an epidemic Of typhoid which forced the attention and intervention of the provincial authorities, And now after the provincial board of health has cleaned the place ep, 0o - belt oilicials want the government to pay all the bills, which shows that living in the richest town in Ontario does not preterit the people of that place from reaching out for all they can get for nothing, same as other people less favored by fortune, Never Crys Quits, Yon may be weak, Sleepless, nervous --digestion may be poor, but don't des• pair. Labour And The Saloon. "The time has come when the saloon and the labour movement must be divorced," declared President Gotnpers of the American Federation of Labour at the great mass meeting of workingmen in Toronto, recently. Mr. Goznpers' declaration and the equally outspoken addresses of other Labour leaders who spoke are signifi- cant of the changed attitude of the labour farces towards the drink evil. The dominant note in the speeches was one of uncompromising hostility to the saloon. The liquor tragic was denounced as the enemy of the work- ingman, and the curse of his life. If the speeches of President Goznpers and his associates correctly indicate the opinion and attitude of organized labour they make a powerful addition to the forces that are making for so- briety and a new social order. Not one of the speakers could be described as a temperance advocate in the ordin- ary sense of the term. They were all men who have achieved any distinc- tion they possess from their connec- tion with the labour movement—men, who have devoted their tirne and energies to those problerns,,which are intimately associated. with the cause of Iabour and the well-being of the workingmen. They have given these problems years of thought and study and one of the conclusions reached is that the saloon is one of the worst enemies that trade unionism has to contend against. John Mitchell knew from years of observation and ex- perience that he was speaking nothing but the truth when he told his hearers that, "Poverty has driven many a strong man to drink, and drink has driven many a strong man to poverty." New Postoffices. There will be fourteen new postoffi- ces built throughout the province. These are at Ohesley, Dresden, Dun- das, Essex, Harr•iston, Listowel, Mit- chell, Mount Forest, Seaforth, Sud- bury, 'Tilbury, Tilsonburg, Uxbridge and Waterloo. At Goderich an addi- tion is to be built to the postoffice now erected.. The offices at Kincardine, Leamington, Parkhill, Welland and Whitby are to be completed. Church Chandelier Fell. At the conc4tsion of the services Sunday night in Rockwood Methodist church, a chandelier, containing a dozen oil lamps, fell, An explosion occurred, and the whole interior of the church was soon wrapped in flames. Fortunately the river was close at hand, and the congregation formed a bucket brigade. The fire was extinguished after burning prac- tically alt the seats and doing several hundred dollars damage to the interior of the edifice. As a household remedy, useful in • emergencies such as are always arising in any home, and particularly where there are children, Zam-Buk is With- out equal. Bonrgue, Notre Dame, Kent Co., N. 13., says—"F'or months I suf• fered with a running sore on my leg, and although I tried several ointments And salves, none did me pinch good, The sore would just heal over, and then break nut again. I was advised to try Zetn-lluk, and obtained a etre- ply, together with some Zetn-Buk Soap. I carefully washed the sore, night and morning, with the Barn-13uk Soap, and then applied the baint, A few weeks of this treatment complete- ly healed the sore," Mr. Joseph 1i:ostynk of Woodridge, Man., says --"I had eczema ovr- my face, neck and hand so bad that T was unable to leave my room. Several '°doctors failed to do me any goad, al- though I spent large sures of money, Zarn-Buk has effected what they failed to clo, and I am now cured."
