A Meaford firm was recently fined for selling seed with more than the allowable percentage of noxious weed seeds therein. The conviction was made through a Manitowaning man who had beets complained against, and who said be bad bought from the Mem- ford firm. The fine was a nominal one. The government isonly anxious to have it understood that the maxi- mum number as set down iR the Seed Act of five seeds to the thousand must not be exceeded, When that is thoroughly understood the fine itnpos- el upon guilty parties will attain greater proportions. Waggon Ran Over Him. The Atwood Bee reports the follow- ing :—What might have proved a fat' l accident happened en the farm of'Mr. Andrew Stevenson on ,Monday when they were engaged in hauling in roots. While in the field loading, his little four-year-old son Eurit was standing close to the wheel, and the driver not notleing his danger started the team, the wheel striking the little fellow and knocking him down, ran length -wise over him. He was picked up and it was found that no bones were broken, although he was badly bruised. It re a miracle that he was not killed when a waggon load with roots passed over him. A Remarkable Map. Down at Ottawa they are publish- ing a map on which in due course will be shown every house, school, church, mill, blacksthithshop, etc„ in the Do- minion. This tremendous map will be made up of sheets, each of which wilt take in about 425 square miles. Already some 15,000 square miles have been mapped out along the frontier. All sorts of things will be recorded on it. For instance, all roads, streams and bridges, are classified, and by con- tours with a vertical interval of twen- ty-five feet, the height and shape of every hill is given. Woods and or- chards are marked and the density of the trees approximately indicated. Concessions and lots are numbered and a great amount of other valuable information supplied. A Meaford firm was recently fined for selling seed with more than the allowable percentage of noxious weed seeds therein. The conviction was made through a Manitowaning man who had beets complained against, and who said be bad bought from the Mem- ford firm. The fine was a nominal one. The Atwood Bee reports the follow- ing :—What might have proved a fat' l accident happened en the farm of'Mr. Andrew Stevenson on ,Monday when they were engaged in hauling in roots. While in the field loading, his little four-year-old son Eurit was standing close to the wheel, and the driver not notleing his danger started the team, the wheel striking the little fellow and knocking him down, ran length -wise over him. He was picked up and it was found that no bones were broken, although he was badly bruised. It re a miracle that he was not killed when a waggon load with roots passed over him. A Remarkable Map. Down at Ottawa they are publish- ing a map on which in due course will be shown every house, school, church, mill, blacksthithshop, etc„ in the Do- minion. This tremendous map will be made up of sheets, each of which wilt take in about 425 square miles. Already some 15,000 square miles have been mapped out along the frontier. All sorts of things will be recorded on it. For instance, all roads, streams and bridges, are classified, and by con- tours with a vertical interval of twen- ty-five feet, the height and shape of every hill is given. Woods and or- chards are marked and the density of the trees approximately indicated. Concessions and lots are numbered and a great amount of other valuable information supplied.
