McIver Wilson Block, Winghatn, THE ELECTION LAW. The law as it now stands says that any person is guilty of bribery and li- able to a fine of $100, and imprison- ment for six months, who gives or promises money, employment, gift, or loan to any voter for voting, or re- fraining from voting. The same pen- alties attach for the offence of accept- ing or applying, either before or after the election, for consideration for vot- ing or zlefraining from voting. Can- didates may not provide refreshments at any public meeting, on pain of a fine of $100. The same applies to other persons, although refreshments _pray be provided by the house. Treat- ing makes a candidate or his agent liable to a fine of $200. It is not a sufficient defence that a person charg- ed with the corrupt practice has been in the habit of treating. Betting, in order to influence an electron, is an offence, as is also the hiring of con- veyances by the candidate or bis agents,'and the supplying of tranpor- tation to the voters to the polls. Per- sons providing conveyances for con- sideration are also guilty of a eorrupt act. 1 Our delicious Cod Liver preparation without oil.
