At the Conservative convention
held at Formosa on Monday, the ex,
peeled happened and Dr. Clapp was
ttelet:ted as the than to champion the
Conservative interest hi South Brnee.
Jiro,. McRae, jr., of the second line,
Culross, who last October started as
mail clerk on the Wingham-Louden
rim, recently wits promoted to having
charge of that service, taking the
place of Mr. Hollister, who went to
the Palmerston -Kincardine line,
Extensive improvements are not
likely to he made in the Presbyterian
church at present, Of $0000 required
to carry out the project, a canvass of
the congregation had secured the
promise of only $3200. Painting,
etc., may he done for present needs,
and general improvement left over till
some future date,
Councillor Brill who since the first
of the year has busied himself in ef-
forts to get improved mail service and
train connections for the town has. re
mixed a letter from Mr, Mc1enzie,
M.I'., stating that the Postoflice De-
pai•tment has decided to put a mail
clerk on the out -going morning train
thus giving another open mail.
P. Strauss of Carrick had his barn
destroyed by fire last week, the fire
originating in a peculiar way. Mr.
Strauss had taken a lantern to the sta-
ble to do the morning chores, wishing
to get through earlier than usual alike
intended to work for a neighbor. In
passing behind one of the horses, the
animal kicked, smashing the lantern
and 'knocking Mr, Straus to the floor.
It was several minutes before he was
able to get u'' and by that time flames
started by the lantern had made such
headway as to be beyond control.
Mr. Strauss was able however to get
the stock and implements out in time
to save them.
Clinton.
The friends of Mrs. Chas. Middleton,
of Goderich township will be pleased
to learn that she had sufficiently re-
covered from her late runaway acci-
dent to be able to return home on
Sunday.
The wife of Mr. D. Eckmier who is
in delicate health went to Toronto last
week to undergo X-ray examination ;
her many friends here will regret to
learn her condition is not very satis-
factory.
Mr, McDonald, claims agent of the
G. T. R. was in town on Wednesday,
securing information concerning the
accident that befell Mr. Manners, of
Wingham, at the station here, in Feb-
ruary last.
A new rat trap is on the market,
the invention of Mr. Jas. Steep, of
town. By this trap the rat is caught
around the neck, and is lifted clear off
its feet, which makes it a sure killer,
as no rat is able to get away after be-
ing caught.
We undefstand that Mr. Fleming,
Principal Exeter Public School, who
was recently offered the position of
County Secretary of the Y. M. C. A.,
has decided to accept the same, and
will make his headquarters in Clinton.
He is an able man, well qualified for
the position. He will enter on his
duties the 1st of July.
A meeting of the Conservative
West Huron Executive and others,
was held in the Town Hall here on
Wednesday, there being a good atten-
dance. After discussion it was decid-
ed to hold a convention in Clinton on
Thursday, May 14th, to select a candi-
date to contest the riding. Mr. D.
Cantelon was elected President, pro
tela, and Mr. J. A. McEwan, secre-
tary,

soon have a new public library build-
ing. The $4,000 offered for its erec-
tion by Mr. Carnegie has been accept-
ed, and the lot on which stands Mr.
Ryan's old cooper shop has been pur-
chased from Mr. Jas. Colquhoun, of

Consumption.
its Cause and Suggested Means of Re.
covery.
Consumption is not always an in-
herited disease, and a large percen-
tage of cases may be attributed to the
following causes :
First, defective digestion. Second,
imperfect nutrition as a result of the
first, Third, the accumulation of
morbid product in the lungs as the re-
sult of imperfect nutrition, and this in
turn breaks down the function of res-
piration and consumption is an estab-
lished disease.
The first stop toward a cure is to
restore the function of nutrition, and
to this end nothing in the world ex-
cels Vinol.
It is for this reason we want every
person in Wingham to know about
our delicious cod liver preparation,
Vinci, which is far superior to old-
fashioned cod liver oil and emulsions
because it is made by a scientific, ex-
tractive and concentratingprocess
from fresh cod's livers, combining
with peptonate of hon all the meth-
ci nal, healing, body building elements
of cad liver oil, but no oil.
Inpnlnonary
diseases,
it nourishes
the body, increases
vigor,Ar, cheeks the
cough and often mitigates the disease.
As a strength -creator for old people,
delicate children, weak,run
down
persons, and after sickness,
Vinol is
unexcelled.
We ask Wingham people to try
Vinol o.1 our offer to return thole
money if it does not give satisfaction.

Your Howick obrrespondent wel-

fellow -workers. They seem to be up
to their business, and though once in
a while they may get an item we
might have, we wish them good luck,
in their work of helping the populari-
ty of the Advance.
Mr. Alex, Edgar had the misfortune
of having one of his horses badly
injured. The accident happened on
the hill just south of Gorrie which was
in a bad condition at that time. One
of the bones of its leg is broken, .but
under Dr. Armstrongs care it is on
the way to recovery.
Howick Conservatives will rally
around A. H. Musgrove and give him
a rousing majority from this banner
township of North Huron. Every
man in line and at work ; with such a
staunch Grit as the Lakelet correspon-
dent of the Record endorsing all the
good things said about Mr. Musgrove
(which by the way was reproduced
from the Advance) Mr. Musgrove
ought to sweep the township. •
Catarrh Now Curable
But Never By Medicine Swallowed,
Snuffs, Sprays or,, Douches.
Catarrh is not a blooddisease and
that is why it cannot be cured by any
medicine taken into the stomach.
Catarrh is a germ trouble contracted
from the germ -laden air you breathe
inward. These germs fasten them-
selves in the tissue and air cells of the
breathing organs, multiply by mil-
lions, cause sneezing, coughing, rais-
ing of mucous, discharge from the
nose, difficulty in breathing, hoarse-
ness, dryness and stoppage of the
nose, tickling in the throat and other
symptoms that can only be reached
by the dry air principal of Hyomei.
It medicates the air you breathe
with the curative properties of the
Australian Eucalyptus Forests where
catarrh is unknown.
The reason you get relief in a min-
ute or two from Hyomei is because it
destroys every catarrhal germ in the
air you breathe, and its dry, penetrat-
ing aroma will reach the innermost
recesses of the air passages, killing
millions of germs a minute. Their
destruction means freedom for op-
pressed respiratory organs. J. W.
McKibbon sells Hyomei under a gua-
rantee of satisfaction or money back.
Price, $1.00.

JOHN LEE'S FEAR

did their best but were powerless.
Mr. John Lee, of Pembroke, says:—
"I had Indigestion.. I had lost • my

was so sick that I feared fatal results,
and wag almost in despair because my
physician seemed powerless to cope
with the disease. I was induced to try
South American Nervine. I received
so much benefit from one bottle that I
persevered in the treatment, and to-
