than they had expected, The cake
went out into the antra of the streatn

they ran into a large rail and one of
the lads jumped on it and got ashore,

streets, under the influence of liquor
and With the assistance of two or
throe other persons, managed to get
her to the Town Hall, where she was
placed in one of the cells to await trial
in the morning. Early in the day the

was getting along, when her pleadings
struck a sympathetic chord in his
make-up and on her promise not to
try to escape, he allowed her to sit in
the reading -room of the library until
the arrival of the J. P. Mr. Bisset
locked the door to make assurance
doubly sure, and wont away to get his
breakfast and secure the magistrate.
Imagine his surprise when the woman

as he arrived there, she having raised
one of the windowe and made her

from the ditch two flasks of whiskey
were found concealed in her dress, and
on being questioned gave the name of
the person who had purchased the
lignor for her. As the woman ,is on
the prohibited list, any poison who
secures liquor for her is subject to a

MUOUANFOAI. COW M LKIIR,
A. bulletin from. the Pennsylvania
State Agricultural llxporiwent Sta•
tion, giving the report of a test of a
mechanical cow milker has just been
issued. The results of the trial are giv-
an In the following summary :•-
required from two o' three
tithes as long to milk a cow with the
machine as would be required by a
good hand milker, but one operator
can d two e
n ban le or this machines so
he can milk four or more cows with
the machine in less time than: he could
rnilk the same number by hand,
2.—In general, cows were milked
cleaner as they became accustomed
to the machine but individuals varied
widely in this respect.. Two of the
cows tested could never be milked
with the machine without leaving one
or more pounds of strippings, while
the others were often milked as coixi-
pletely as would be done by hand
under ordinary circumstances.
3.—No difference in yield of milk
was observed that could be attributed
to the machine milking, but there was
usually a slight drop when changing
from one method to the other, always
in changing from hand to machine
milking.
4.—No injury to the udder took
place that could with certainty be
attributed to the use of the machine.
5—The general health of all the
cows remained good during the entire
experiment.
0.—Wide variations in the flavor
and keeping qualities of milk were
observed from different cows, but the
quality of the milk from each cow
remained practically constant, wheat
er she was milked by hand or
machine.

There is so much Rheumatism here
hi our neighborhood now that the fol-
lowing advice by an eminent authori-
ty, who writes for readers of a large
eastern daily paper, will be highly
appreciated by those who suffer :—
Get from any goocl pharmacy one-
half ounce Fluid Extract Dandelion,
one ounce Oompound Largon, three
ounces of Compound Syrup Sarsapa-
rilla. Shake these well in a bottle and
take in teaspoonful doses after each
ineal and at bedtime ; also drink plen-
ty of good water.
It is claimed that there are few vic-
tims of this dread and torturous dis-
ease who will fail to find ready relief
in this simple home-made mixture,
and in most cases a permanent cure is
the result.
This siinple recipe is said to
strengthen and cleanse the elimina-
tive tissues of the kidneys so that they
con filter and strain from the blood
and system 'the poisons, acids and
waste matter, which cause not only
Rheumatism, but numerous other
diseases. Every inan or woman here
who feel that their kidneys are not
healthy and active, or who suffers
from any urinary trouble "Whatever,
