Rev. and Mrs. Brandon of Port Col- borne were taken quite by surprise on Thursday night, October 24th, at the prayer meeting, in the basement of the Central Methodist church. Early in the meeting, Mr. W. J. Saurin stepped forward to offer a few re- marks on the occasion of Mr. and Mrs. Brandon's Silver wedding anniversary and while doing so, the room rapidly filled with guests from Port Colborne and Morgan's Point, until over 100 found places. Mr. 0. Steele was then called upon to read the address for Port Colborne, and three young ladies presented Mr. and Mrs. Brandon with a beautiful Silver Tea Set of four pieces and one dozen Silver Knives and Forks. Mr. 11. Barrick read the address for Morgan's Point, and Miss Barriek.pre- sented a purse of silver dollars. Mr. and Mrs. Brandon, though taken com- pletely by surprise, managed each to express their thanks for the kind re- membrances of the friends. Lunch was then served. The remainder of the evening was spent in speech -mak- ing and music, and closed with the National Anthem and prayer. The following are copies of the addresses : Port Colborne, Oct. 24, 1007. To Rev. and Mrs. Brandon :— The members of your Church and congregation, together ' with your Very many friends, have assembled here to -night to do honor to you on an occasion that few are permitted to celebrate. For a little more than a year you have been with us, but so soon you have found the warm spots rvery ' in a legion of hearts,wl o are pleased to have such an opportunity to show their appreciation of your work and worth. It is only after twenty-five years of continuous wed- ded life that it is lawful to ring over the heads of a husband and wife the "silver bell," and to re -marry them without taxing the bridegroom, but this being the 25th anniversary of your matrimonial career, we all with one accord join hands about you to express by our actions, the esteem in which you are cherished, Your ser- mons, Mr. Brandon, have been a reve- lation to many. The manner in which you have presented the truth cannot help but appeal to everyone, who has the opportunity, to come within the sound of your voice on the Lord's Day. You have so earnestly sought to show that we all have , opportunities to serve the Christ, whether 'it be in the field or in the shop, in the office or at the store. This great truth alone has found its lodging place in very many hearts on account of your eloquence and your enthusiasm, It is very evi- dent your whole being is in the Mare tee's work, else you would not lie so persistent in your every day toil, in finding new homes to comfort, many souls to cheer, and lost then and omen to bring to the Shepherd's w p fold. In Watching your pastorate here in connection with the Central Methodist cliru'ch, we rntist conclude that your untiring efforts in behalf of v r y r is mast in- deed be blessed with success. As Caleb was rewarded for his faithful• ness, surely there will be a fall shnre allotted to you. The Church has grown, the S. School has improved, the choir has done their part well, the Epworth League has been organized under your enthusiasm, and alto- gether you certainly are not proceed- ing with empty hands, but with am- bition and enthusiasm marked by pleasing results. Mrs. Brandon in a very large degree must share the glory of these things with you, for with her kindly manner and genial Christian , womanhood, your work must be greatly strengthened. Iter presence in the various duties of the Church, has won for herself a place with the ladies and general member- ship, which might worthily be coveted by anyone. In support of these facts, add in response to our overflowing love and appreciation of you both, we desire on behalf of all present and many others, to present you with this Silver Tea Set, and trust that you may receive the same as coming from sincere friends and may it please the Giver of all good gifts, that Mr. and Mrs. Brandon may live to enjoy these tokens, until the time of their Golden wedding, and when we meet in that Eternal home beyond the grave, may we all be the happier because of this night. MORGAN'. POINT ADDRESS. Vete hmembers and adherents of Morgan's Point Church desire to ex- press our good will and extend to you our heartiest congratulations on this the 25th anniversary of your wedding day. "Yon have ever manifested an interest in the welfare of our souls, pointing •us- to the One who is able and willing to guide us over life's rough sea and land us safely in the Heavenly rest. We will now present you with this purse of silver, not for its value, but as a token of onr love and esteem. We hope that the Hea- venly Father, who hes thus far spared you in health and strength to work in his vineyard,. may spare you for years to come, and that you both may enjoy the richest blessing that this world can bestow. o O.
