Friday Afternoon, Sept. 28th. Victor's Royal Venetian Band Secured at great expense, will give a choice program in front of the Grand Stand. This Bance has been playing with great success in the United States, and this is practically their first appearance in Canada. This Band is from Venice, Italy, and is almost entirely composed of soloists. It is one of the greatest musical organizations of the day. SPECIAL FEATURES. A local ministerial association is in course of formation. It will include all the local ministers and those on nearby circuits. Mrs. Donald McLean, of the 1st con. of Culross east, died early Tuesday morning, after an illness extending over several months. The dry season in this part of the province has been favorable to the production of potatoes of good quality free from rot, though the tubers are not numerous in the ground. The directors of the Culross 'Agri- cultural Association held a meeting on Saturday last and added to the very complete arrangements made for the big event of Oct. 3rd and 4th. F. G. Moffatt, who has bought be- tween three and four thousand barrels of apples in this locality, started his packers to work at fall apples on Mon- day. The prices paid this year will average about $1 per bbl. on the tree. Mr. Morrow, the C. P. R. right-of- way agent, who has been negotiating with the farmers between Hanover and Walkerton, says that the farmers through whose land the road is sur- veyed have formed a combine and are holding out for unreasonable prices. Sam Sturgeon, the only one cap- tured of the three young men charged with being implicated in the assault upon Miss Bradley near Bervie, stood his preliminary trial at Kincardine on Tuesday last. He 'was committed to stand trial by Magistrate Barker. The McLeod brothers have so far eluded Constable Hodgins who traced them to the Soo, Mich. ' W. T. McDonald, B. S. A., M. S. A., who has been at his home on the 0th line during the summer, has secured the appointment of Professor of Ani- mal Husbandry in the Agricultural College of Oklahoma in the middle Western States. The position which at present commands a salary of $1,- 500 per year is an enviable one for a young man just out of College. While driving into town Saturday evening, Mr. Robert Button, 8th con., met with a painful accident. When at the corner of Elizabeth and Union streets, his horse took fright at an- other horse that was at large on the street, and making a sudden turn up- set the buggy and ran away. Idr. Monaghan has a couple of this year's pullets, Barred Rocks of last spring's hatching, which began laying three weeks ago, and have kept steadily at it ever since. Mr. W. A. Galbraith, who has been in the clothing and gents' furnishings business for the past few months, has assigned to the NV. E. Sandford Co. of Hamilton, who will wind up the affairs. Mr. D. Can felon says the demand for fruit from the west is greater than the immediate supply. Dealers are anxious to have fruit at once, and he says it is not possible to fill all the orders. He has over 20,000 barrels bought already. The staff of the Collegiate Institute is to be reorganized, and all the teach- ers have rrcoived notice of the ter - ruination of their agreement on No- vember 8th. The re -organization does not imply that the Board will lose the services of any member of the present staff. This town seems pestered with sneak thieves. Mrs. W. G. Doherty's house was entered recently and a quantity of fruit stolen. Mrs. Lew Thrower's loss is greater, for the sneak thief carried off her gold watch. Gor- don Cunningham's bicycle was taken on Sunday night, but was recovered at the station Monday morning. The 27 months old son of Mrs. W. J. Tozer owes its life to the promptness of Engineer Irwin of the G. T. R. On Monday it strayed away from home and wandered down the track towards the old salt block. The 5.20 train came along with its usual speed, when the little tot was noticed on the track. Brakes were applied, and the engine reversed, the engineer at the same moment jumping and running ahead of the enine, and snatching the child from the -track just as the ponderous locomotive stopped quite close to the child. 1 PALL L'XHIBMONS.
