Brussels will be represented by pos-
sibly four rinks of bowlers at the
Listowel Bowling Toul'ament to take
plaice on Dominion Day. A big program
with the bowls is being arranged for.
East Huron and Grey Branch Fall
Fair Directors met in the Council oham•
ber on Saturday, June 14th, with Prost -
dent Ferguson in the chair, for the par•
pose of revising the Fall Show prize list
and attending to other items of business.
The bust program in the history of the
Fair will bo presented.
On Monday of last week as Roy, son
of John Pugh, Flora street, was carry-
ing a sharp scythe, intending to mow
the grass along the street in front of
their property, he tripped and fell upon
the keen blade. The first finger of his
right hand was nearly severed and his
left arm, near the elbow, received a bad
gash requiring the aid of a physician to
dress it. Fortunately the main artery
was not cut or it would have been a most
serious case.
G. A. Deadman reports that the weath-
er of late has been very unfavorable for
bees and honey and unless a change soon
there will be a scarcity of this best of all
sweets. Swarming has begun. Ile has
now upwards of 300 colonies in his
apiary, divided as follows :-55 at home;
50 in Morris township; 20 in Grey town-
ship; 125 at Owen Sound; and 50 on the.
Island of St. Joseph. Reckoning 30,000
bees to a colony it would mean 9,000,-
000 little workers all anxious to bring in
their loads of nectar.
The suit of McNabb vs. Zilliax, which
has awakened considerabie interest in
Brussels and locality, came up for hear-
ing at the Assizes in Goderich last week,
before Justice Street. Tho defendant
was charged with having contributed to
the decease of plaintiff's father by sell-
ing him liquor in Central hotel, Brussels,
and while under its influence he fell into
the hotel cellar causing injuries result-
ing in his death. Defendant was sued
for $1,000 damages. There was quite an
array of witnesses, Barristers Blair and
Sinclair, of town, conducted the case for
the respective sides. Wednesday morn-
ing the jury rendered their decision and
Mr. Zilliaz was assessed $250.00 and full
costs.

All members present. Minutes of the
last meeting read and signed. The fol-
lowing cheques were issued, viz:—For-
esters, Whitechurch, ase of hall at elec.
tion, $8.00; John Murray, use of house,
$3.00; James Fisher, use of house, $3.00;
Foresters, Kinloss, use of hall at elec-
tion, $3.00; Jacob Driller, grading, $45.00.
The whole contract of gravelling 10th
sideline was awarded to Jacob Miller at
30 7/16 per yard. Tho Council then ad-
journed to meet again on Monday, July
7th at 10 a. m.—Geo. G. Moffat, clerk.
—A Pickering farmer sheared a Cots-
wold ewe the other day and the fleece
weighed 18M pounds.
—Abraham Gauley was drowned
while crossing Goderich harbor from an
island to the mainland. Ho was a wid-
ower and leaves four small children,
—The United States oat crop this year,
according co some authorities, is estimat-
ed at nine hundred million bushels, as
against seven hundred and thirty-seven
million bushels last year,
—It is estimated that 35,000 Americans
will settle in one section of the North-
West this year, and that the total im-
migration to that country will reach
between 75,000 and 80,000,
--The Goderich Star says; It is come
pitted that over four thousand black
bass have been taken out of the river in
this town the post four day; and there is
grass enough on our streets at the
present day to make hay enough to
winter all the cows ]rept in town, and
yet no one has started to cut it so far for
that purpose.
—John McGrath, of Hibbert, recently
sold to D. Donovan, of Senfortll, a 3 -
year -old geldiug for the snug sum of
$.223. This fine animal weighed over
1,800 pounds. D. McDonald, jr., of the
10t11 concession of fittckersmitlr, also sold
to the same buyer a 3 -year-old gelding,
for Which he received PIO. Both horses
were purchased for 14tr, Hendry, of
Hamilton, and were purchased for use
on his drays.

The spring session, of this court for the
county of Huron, was opened An Mon-
day afternoon of last wee before Mr.
Justice Street, There were no criminal
01 305, so the sheriff presented Nis Lord-
ship with the usual pair of gloves, The
civil list was made up of seven jury and
two non -jury eases.
After the jury roll had been called and
the grand jury had chosen their fore-
man, the court made a short address to
the jar), on their duties, and then, there
being no jury case ready Itis Lordship
heard Allan vs. Reever, an action to re-
cover a piece of laud. Judgment re-
served.
Smith vs. Sohoeuhals, an action aris-
ing out of a flood at Port Albert two
years since. Settled by the parties con-
cerned before the opening of the court.
At the opening of the court on Tues-
day Rook et all vs. Trott, an action to
set aside a gift inter vivos. The parties
Live in and near Exeter. The trial was
postponed till the next assizes at defend-
ant's request, owing tq the illness of her
husband, a material witness.
Doherty vs. the Millers' Insurance
Company, an action on a policy for
$8,000, was by consent tried without a
jury, and it was concluded about 11 a.
m. Judgment reserved,
Neelin vs. G. T. R., an action for al,
leged negligence by steam escaping
from the heating apparatus at Mitchell
station, and knocking the plaintiff down,
whereby he suffered injuries. Quite a
number of witnesses were examined and
the case was exceedingly interesting.
The judge, in summing up, seemed to
incline slightly to the R. R. Co., and the
jury after a long absence, being unable
to agree, were discharged.
Merner vs. Merner, an action on a
promissory note. The plaintiff lives in
the township of Hay, and the defendant
at Sebringville. Action settled between
the parties out of court.
McNabb vs. ZilIiax, an action for the
excessive sale of liquor to the late Alex-
ander McNabb, of tI1e township of Mor-
ris. The defendant was at the time of
the sale of liquor a hotelkeeper in the
village of Brussels. The jury returned
a verdict of $250 for•the plaintiff, who is
the administratrix and daughter of the
deceased,
Taylor vs. Doupe, an actionforbreach
of promise to marry, lasted but a short
time, as plaintiff was the only witness.
The plaintiff lives in Kirkton, and the
defendant was until recently a merchant
in Luean. The jury after a short de-
liberation gave a verdict for plaintiff
and $1200 damages.
Fowler vs. Hugill, an action about the
sale of a piece of land in Manitoba, was
a non -jury ease, and lasted but a short
time, is Lordship giving judgment for
plaintiff with costs.
The court closed shortly before 1 p.m
on Wednesday,

East Huron and Grey Branch Fall
Fair Directors met in the Council oham•
ber on Saturday, June 14th, with Prost -
dent Ferguson in the chair, for the par•
pose of revising the Fall Show prize list
and attending to other items of business.
The bust program in the history of the
Fair will bo presented.
On Monday of last week as Roy, son
of John Pugh, Flora street, was carry-
ing a sharp scythe, intending to mow
the grass along the street in front of
their property, he tripped and fell upon
the keen blade. The first finger of his
right hand was nearly severed and his
left arm, near the elbow, received a bad
gash requiring the aid of a physician to
dress it. Fortunately the main artery
was not cut or it would have been a most
serious case.
G. A. Deadman reports that the weath-
er of late has been very unfavorable for
bees and honey and unless a change soon
there will be a scarcity of this best of all
sweets. Swarming has begun. Ile has
now upwards of 300 colonies in his
apiary, divided as follows :-55 at home;
50 in Morris township; 20 in Grey town-
ship; 125 at Owen Sound; and 50 on the.
Island of St. Joseph. Reckoning 30,000
bees to a colony it would mean 9,000,-
000 little workers all anxious to bring in
their loads of nectar.
The suit of McNabb vs. Zilliax, which
has awakened considerabie interest in
Brussels and locality, came up for hear-
ing at the Assizes in Goderich last week,
before Justice Street. Tho defendant
was charged with having contributed to
the decease of plaintiff's father by sell-
ing him liquor in Central hotel, Brussels,
and while under its influence he fell into
the hotel cellar causing injuries result-
ing in his death. Defendant was sued
for $1,000 damages. There was quite an
array of witnesses, Barristers Blair and
Sinclair, of town, conducted the case for
the respective sides. Wednesday morn-
ing the jury rendered their decision and
Mr. Zilliaz was assessed $250.00 and full
costs.

The whole contract of gravelling 10th
sideline was awarded to Jacob Miller at
30 7/16 per yard. Tho Council then ad-
journed to meet again on Monday, July

—A Pickering farmer sheared a Cots-
wold ewe the other day and the fleece
weighed 18M pounds.
—Abraham Gauley was drowned
while crossing Goderich harbor from an
island to the mainland. Ho was a wid-
ower and leaves four small children,
—The United States oat crop this year,
according co some authorities, is estimat-
ed at nine hundred million bushels, as
against seven hundred and thirty-seven
million bushels last year,
—It is estimated that 35,000 Americans
will settle in one section of the North-
West this year, and that the total im-
migration to that country will reach
between 75,000 and 80,000,
--The Goderich Star says; It is come
pitted that over four thousand black
bass have been taken out of the river in
this town the post four day; and there is
grass enough on our streets at the
present day to make hay enough to
winter all the cows ]rept in town, and
yet no one has started to cut it so far for
that purpose.
—John McGrath, of Hibbert, recently
sold to D. Donovan, of Senfortll, a 3 -
year -old geldiug for the snug sum of
$.223. This fine animal weighed over
1,800 pounds. D. McDonald, jr., of the
10t11 concession of fittckersmitlr, also sold
to the same buyer a 3 -year-old gelding,
for Which he received PIO. Both horses
were purchased for 14tr, Hendry, of
Hamilton, and were purchased for use
on his drays.

The spring session, of this court for the
county of Huron, was opened An Mon-
day afternoon of last wee before Mr.
Justice Street, There were no criminal
01 305, so the sheriff presented Nis Lord-
ship with the usual pair of gloves, The
civil list was made up of seven jury and
two non -jury eases.
After the jury roll had been called and
the grand jury had chosen their fore-
man, the court made a short address to
the jar), on their duties, and then, there
being no jury case ready Itis Lordship
heard Allan vs. Reever, an action to re-
cover a piece of laud. Judgment re-
served.
Smith vs. Sohoeuhals, an action aris-
ing out of a flood at Port Albert two
years since. Settled by the parties con-
cerned before the opening of the court.
At the opening of the court on Tues-
day Rook et all vs. Trott, an action to
set aside a gift inter vivos. The parties
Live in and near Exeter. The trial was
postponed till the next assizes at defend-
ant's request, owing tq the illness of her
husband, a material witness.
Doherty vs. the Millers' Insurance
Company, an action on a policy for
$8,000, was by consent tried without a
jury, and it was concluded about 11 a.
m. Judgment reserved,
Neelin vs. G. T. R., an action for al,
leged negligence by steam escaping
from the heating apparatus at Mitchell
station, and knocking the plaintiff down,
whereby he suffered injuries. Quite a
number of witnesses were examined and
the case was exceedingly interesting.
The judge, in summing up, seemed to
incline slightly to the R. R. Co., and the
jury after a long absence, being unable
to agree, were discharged.
Merner vs. Merner, an action on a
promissory note. The plaintiff lives in
the township of Hay, and the defendant
at Sebringville. Action settled between
the parties out of court.
McNabb vs. ZilIiax, an action for the
excessive sale of liquor to the late Alex-
ander McNabb, of tI1e township of Mor-
ris. The defendant was at the time of
the sale of liquor a hotelkeeper in the
village of Brussels. The jury returned
a verdict of $250 for•the plaintiff, who is
the administratrix and daughter of the
deceased,
Taylor vs. Doupe, an actionforbreach
of promise to marry, lasted but a short
time, as plaintiff was the only witness.
The plaintiff lives in Kirkton, and the
defendant was until recently a merchant
in Luean. The jury after a short de-
liberation gave a verdict for plaintiff
and $1200 damages.
Fowler vs. Hugill, an action about the
sale of a piece of land in Manitoba, was
a non -jury ease, and lasted but a short
time, is Lordship giving judgment for
plaintiff with costs.
The court closed shortly before 1 p.m
on Wednesday,
