DOES IT PAY TO BUY CHEAP ?
A cheap remedy for coughs and
colds is all right, but you want some-
thing that will relieve and cure the
ruore severe and dangerous results of
throat and lung troubles. What shall
you do? Go to tt warmer and more
regular climate? Yes, if possible;
if not possible for you, then in either
case take the ONLY remedy that has
been introduced in all civilized coun-
tries with success in severe throat and
lung troubles, "Bosehee's German
Syrup." It not only heals and stimu-
lates the tissues to destroy the germ

Last Thursday afternoon the ]ate
Horace Horton, ex -M -P, for Central
Huron and ex -mayor of this town, was
laid at rest in Maitland Cemetery, in the
presence of a lnrge concourse of friends.
Deceased was born in the old land
in 1823, became a resident of Goderich
in 1832, and for the past fifty years took
an active part in building up the town.
On Monday the remains of the late J.
F. C. Haldane, barrister, of Windsor
were interred in Maitland cemetery be-
side those of his grandfather, the late
Rev, Mr. Campbell, the first Rector of
the Euglish church in Goderiell. The
deceased was the eldest child of Mr.
John Haldane, one of the early princi-
pals of the Goderich grammar school,
who is still living in Toronto.
Mrs. Dean, of Ashfield, died on Mon-
day at Kingsbridge, after having lived
iu three centuries, having been born in
1798. Lately the old lady had been fail-
ing, and became quite childlike, but her
great age, many friends and large num-
ber of relatives, made her the most en-
quired after woman in the township.
The centurian was one of the first set-
tlers in this part of Huron and passed
through Goderich when it was practic-
ally uninhabited by white man, and has
lived in the neighborhood of Kings-
bridge ever since.
An exciting scene was that on the
ice, about three miles from shore, off
Salkeld's farm, on Tuesday, when the
east wind separated the ice at that point
from the land block. At this point
John McIver, John McAuley, John Mc-
Lean, Allan McAuley and Angus Mc-
Donald were trout fishing, their hooks
being set just west of the spot where the
break occurred. It was not noticed at
first, but when it was there was a float-
ing block that nearly reached between
the separated parts and on this the two
first named jumped, but the space wid-
ened they could not reach solid ice.
Captain Murdock McDonald, who was
near at hand, saw the difficulty and
cast a trout line to the men on the out-
going ice, and this being stretched, the
men on the floe grasped it and worked
themselves to shore. The block was sent
back again and the three fast named got
on, but it had been pulled but it little
shorewards when it beeen. to sink, and
when the men were over 100 fent away
they were thrown into the cold water of
Lake Huron. They all held on to the
lisle however and Captain McDonald,
John McIver and John McAuley pulled
with a will and landed them safely after
their cold bath. It was a close shave,
and had not Capt. McDonald been at
hand with his line the quiutette would
have had a long and cold ride on the ice,
before a boat could have been carried
through the hummocks to their assist-
ance. -[Star.
